Sorry, I'm alone in a hotel room and needed to share...

I just arrived in Universal City for LA3 & LA4 to the news that my 14 year old dog back in Australia took a bad turn and had to be put to sleep.

Like PJ, he was there through some pretty crappy and pretty good times in my life.

RIP Jack.

sorry for your loss. A dog is not just a pet, its a family member, a friend, and one of the best gifts we humans are given. I am sorry to hear this and wish you the best

Thanks Norm and elwayvedder, let's have a beer for him tomorrow.

The view from the Hilton just doesn't fill me with awe as it did an hour ago.

He had a great life, the best a dog could get and spent his final 6 years living in the most beautiful South West Australian town (Dunsborough), with spectacular beaches he swam in, fields with rabbits to chase and a family who loved him.

    I can't stop crying.

so sorry to hear about your pal Jack. they become like family. hands down one of the hardest things i ever had to do was put down one of my dogs. rest assured that he no longer suffers and that you gave him a good life.

Thank you all for making me feel better a million miles from home...

Jack now has wings and is given to fly...
  • I'm so sorry for your loss. My fiance opened my world up to the love a dog can bring you and we have two rescues. I'm sure Jack felt as loved as an animal can be and is in a good place. I bet the music of the next two nights will find him wherever he is. We will be there nights 3-4 too. We'll be thinkin' of ya.

Unfortunately it was my fiance who had to take him to the vet and make the final decision. She was never an 'animal person' until she met me with dogs and cats in tow. I feel really bad she had to be the one to make the call, but also glad that Jack was with her when his time came - he was ready and she is a beautiful caring soul who I have known since we were teenagers. I'd just hoped he could have had one last summer at the beach, but he'd have been lucky to have lived long enough for me to get home. If/when Pearl Jam play The End over the next couple of nights, I'm claiming it for Jack. And Just Breathe is for Toni. :)

Sorry to hear that. He was the same age as my dog, who's name incidentally was Eddie. My dog died about 4 years ago and I still miss him, we got him before we had our kids.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Maybe you can play some Pearl Jam -- music is always good for providing comfort.

...and to Toni - my beautiful and caring partner and mother of my daughter who had to make the decision for me. It killed her to take him to the vet and be with him and hold him as he took his last. She even looked into his eyes as he slipped away... I know know what love is. She encouraged me to come on this trip and then stepped in to make the hardest decision in her life while i was over here.

If there is any way in this world that "Just Breathe" could be dedicated to her (and called by Eddie) it would make my world. But i'm not expecting that, just a nice dream...
