Wrong. Also, Pearl Jam does not have any song that would pump up the crowd at the Super Bowl like American Girl or Free Fallin'. I would bet that if Pearl Jam played Alive that 65% or more of the crowd would not recognize the song.

I disagree with that statement- I actually think more older people know PJ than you think. I tailgate at Ohio State games every Saturday in the fall right next to the stadium where all the old alumni have their tailgates (my grandpa gives me his pass) I always have PJ bootlegs on my loud speakers I setup next to my truck- every time atleast 3-5 older men (guys in their late 40s to 60s) come by and ask if it is Pearl Jam then say something like "yeah those guys are really good" They hear some of the covers then something like Alive and say "oh I know this song"---hell even my dad knows Pearl Jam and he is waaay out of the loop

The thing is that Petty is so popular that if you were playing any of his songs the guys in their 40s to 60s wouldn't even have to ask you if that was Tom Petty since they would already know and could list off any number of his songs.

A lot of people on the board seem to complain that when PJ do a show they always play their big hits like even flow or Jeremy. To put things in perspective Tom Petty has enough big hits of that caliber that he could play a whole concert worth of songs like that, not just a couple.

I have had so many people in the past ten years surprised when they find out Pearl Jam is still a band.
That has never happened with Petty...

This is sad but true. I love both Tom Petty and Pearl Jam, but yesterday afternoon I was hanging out with friends in DC, and whenever I mentioned that I was going to see Pearl Jam, the usual reaction was, "Oh yeah, they're a great band...I didn't know they were still around," or "those guys are still together?"

Well...if this was to happen, and I hope it does not happen.

I would imediately send the kids to bed, go out in the garage, saw off my ears, and drill out my eyeballs.

Honestly..I could not bare the thought of seeing or hearing my favorite band of all time participate in the freakish waterhead circus that is the SuperBowl halftime show.

Could you imagine the horror of watching them perform on a neon football shaped stage while a bunch of half naked stripper cheerleaders and redneck drunkards dance like idiots to a hit friendly, made for TV medley of "Alive", "Even Flow" and "Jeremy".

I can just see the F-16 Fighter Jets, Pyrotechnics, and Fireworks now...

Holy Jesus that would be horrific.

It would be a truly nightmarish sight.

This music was not made for such a depraved and vile setting

It would fuck up the space time continum
