10 framed PJ posters to decorate my music room

edited October 2009 in The Porch
Last week I framed up 10 PJ posters for my new home "studio". I'm not sure if this should go under The Porch or Gearheads, so I'll post this on The Porch if the mods want to move it, that's ok. I forgot the year of some of them, so I'll just post what I remember for now.

Posters from left to right are...

drumroom1.jpg
EV Batman, MSG '08, Nassau Coliseum '03, VA Beach '08, Camden

drumroom2.jpg
NYC/NJ '98, Boston, DC '08, EV Rocket '09

MSG '08

a handful of passes

    That looks awesome.

Question: Did you run into problems with the EV Rocket framing? Part of the i and the target were hidden by the mat in my frame job.

I don't think I ran into any problem with the "i" since there was a good amount of white boarder. The target I think I'm showing the whole thing too, and the mat opening starts right at the end of the target on the left. I don't think I covered that with matting. Why would your "i" be hidden? Any trained framer would know there was ample room to show the "i" and I believe my "target" was intact too.

love the way they are hung perfectly too and all the frames are the same size...looks uniform..

I'm never sure about hanging posters with different coloured matts together but yours looks cool. :D

    nice job on the posters.
Thats a helluva lot more than a " handful" of passes if you ask me ,
how did you get so many if you dont mind me asking and are they all PJ passes ?
    Those are cool too!

    Thanks! :)

Most of the posters have unique sizes, and are off by maybe a half-inch or so in height. I hung them so the tops aligned which streamlines the space. I used unique colored matting on each one that was specific to the tones in the print. Usually I prefer more subdued tones when framing, but when you have a neon-orange and neon-green poster, those are the only colors that you can use. The Camden eagle one I used a chenille fabric top-mat to try to match the textured look of the eagle's feathers.

    frameo.jpg

The frame I used was a contemporary one with a champagne colored edge and a pewter-black front. Black frames are usually pretty heavy in tone so I wanted something that worked with the subtleties of most of the prints. This panel's streaked finish looks like a wood tone on the MSG tree posters, and looks black on the VA Beach poster, and the champagne edge matches the paper tone of the Nassau one. It doesn't do much for the Boston neon colored one, but for the rest it has a lot of versatility. I knew these were going to "live together" so I wanted the same frame on all of them so the walls didn't look like a mess. If I were going to hang them in separate rooms I would have framed them more uniquely. I have 2000 frames at my shop, so that could have been fun to find unique frames for each... but... that would have taken forever.

Thanks... I have a few hundred, so these are a handful to me. :) In the framing, only two of them are PJ. From the bottom left the third one up, third one left is from MSG '98. I used to work backstage in NY/NJ area at most of the big venues, half the time managing backstage while my boss dealt with the bigger rigging and stage setup. I often managed the passes too so I many times ended up with a bunch of them after the show, plus the one I wore. Oh, the second PJ pass from the bottom left is second one in the bottom row from Randall's Island. I didn't work that show but one of our security people did and had that as an extra and gave it to me. It's a No Code type polaroid with a gold tooth.

    Looks Awesome.

Question: Did you run into problems with the EV Rocket framing? Part of the i and the target were hidden by the mat in my frame job.

    Hey BraceYourSelf,

I just looked at the framed EV Rocket poster this morning. I framed it with the matting showing 100% of the target and 100% of the "i". The only thing I had to conceal a little of was the rocket-blast part since that printing goes off the paper edge, so a little of the paper is needed to hold art behind the mat.

Again, most trained framers would have easily accommodated the target and the "i". Did you go to an independent frame shop or a big box?
