What other shows preferably Pearl Jam shows have you been to where the crowd was less than par. For me personally i was really let down by the crowds in Sydney Australia in 06. It seemed as i moved east to west in OZ that the crowds got better. Adelaide and Perth were awesome. Eddie mentioned at the first Sydney show in 06 that he thought he was at church... So share any negative crowd experiences if you have any...........

I have never been let down by a crowd. If I have to say a worst crowd, it would be perth 03. I was studying there at the time and the rest of my shows have all been in europe. Barcelona 06 was the craziest, I have never seen anything like it. 15,000 people, everyone going totally bananas. Was great!

Never been disappointed by a crowd at a Pearl Jam gig, but once when I was living in Prague in 2007 I went to see The Cure, one of my all time favs, and the crowd kinda sucked...

  • I was expecting the Manchester gig this year to be the best of the bunch,i have been there loads(M.E.N) and usually its awesome but the pj gig there wasnt as good as the the other Euro dates imho
I think this was more down to the setlist and band
I suppose the downside of the band never doing the same set is that some nights arent quite as good as other ones :?
So Seattlites take heart and share the blame 50/50 with the band :D
ohh yeah while we are talking about crowds, eddie fuck manchester come to Newcastle

I have never been in a poor crowd for a PJ gig. not once.

Its different over here though, the general admission certainly allows the crowd to interact more and give off more energy that a seated place would. I really do not get having seats at a rock show

Agree on the general admission although i know there is a faction out there that is of the other opinion. To each their own i guess. I don't think i would say that any PJ crowd sucked. But some have been far more superior than others. And when you are at a crazy one where the band is totally feeding off the crowds energy those other crowds that were not as enthusiastic; well those shows pale in comparison.

i was at the sacramento show in 98 @ arco, and tat crowd bummed me out. super energetic, and really into pj, i know, what's not to like, right? they really were extremely rude to X, the opening band who were actually really really great, and just disgustingly ridiculous to the singer, a guy next to me kept yelling, between songs mind you, "show your tits, or get off the stage!" and flipping her off. it really bummed me out. it didn't get passed ed either. and then there was a lot of shoe throwing going on, i think a shoe hit ed in the face, he poured wine into it and drank it from the shoe.......it wasn't exactly shoes for my friends, but it was still disgraceful.

You guys have to understand that the mood and excitement level are different depending on where you sit. If you have a seat near the front it'll be the BEST concert. If you're way way back it'll be a little less spectacular...just my opinion.

I was in the pit for the main set, then drew back totally exhausted and had a seat on the side for the encores. There were no allocated seats, so if you felt like sitting down, you could just go find yourself a seat. From here I had a great view of the entire arena and the sight of this wonderful crowd was so beautiful and spectacular. Never seen anything like it in my other 11 pj shows. My eyes were as much on the crowd as they were on the band. The place was so filled, I think they had to force the doors shut to fit the last person in there :D

Everyone from the front to the back functioned as one unity. It was so graceful to watch.

Do you remember how hot it was?? omg!

for the record, speaking as someone who was at both of the recent Seattle shows the crowd each night didn't "suck"...they simply were a little on the quieter side,...

That was at the SECOND Sydney show, get your facts straight before you talk shit.

I was at both shows and the crowd sucked at both. Irregardless SYDNEY CROWDS SUCKED AT BOTH SHOWS in comparison to other crowds i have been at!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Step up next time!!!!! I'm drunk now and talking the truth as i see it!!!!!!!!!!!

My drunk Canadian, the first Sydney show was GOLDEN!! A lot of energy, and if you need the crowd around you to get fired up, then I think the problem lies with you. Granted that a great crowd takes the experience to that higher level, but you should be able to rock out without relying on those around you.

The second concert was not the best for crowds, but they loaded up on ST tracks when alot of fans that night wanted the classics. Add that to the overzealous security that would threaten to throw you out if you moved outside of the line they had taped to the ground that didnt even allow you 1 step forward, and you have the makings of an audience that are worried about moving around which may lead them to get thrown out.

Thats how it is down here, deal with it.

You need to remember, Aussie crowds are less rabid and obsessive that US and Canadian crowds. We have a 'She'll be right' attitude for all walks of life. But of all the cities in Australia, Sydney is rather fickle and quick to jump on and off a bandwagon, be it sport, music whatever.

In the end though, I had a fucking blast, and it doesnt really bother me whether you thought the crowds sucked or not, but just thought I would explain the culture and some elements the lead to you think the crowds sucked.

Obviously you missed Sydney 3, if anyone wants to back me up on it, it was probably the loudest for crowds on the Aussie tour, with Brisbane 1 possibly the best.

Manchester this year was a bit useless crowd-wise for me. Lots of folded arms and people not paying attention in general. The section where I was for Seattle night 1 was piss poor too.

And while you may say you shouldn't need a good crowd to enjoy a show, I totally feed off of other peoples energy. I'm not saying the shows above were totally shite, just that the crowd could've been more into it.

I do agree with you, I mentioned that having a great crowd around you takes the experience to the next level, but I think sometimes we (as a PJ fanbase) look at the crowd too much, worrying whether their arms are raised in a V etc. Nothing like an awesome crowd, but it shouldnt ruin the experience for the individual if it's not up there.

This is a well though out articulate response to my drunken one. Well done.... I was only looking to stir up a bit of shit when i wrote it. I still had a great time at those shows as i do at any PJ show. The band i am sure feeds off the crowds energy however. Conversely i do as well to some degree. Whatever the reasons may be. This crowd was no were near the level it should have been at IMO. I guess as you said US and Canadian crowds are a bit more rabid so i guess it can be looked at as an unfair assessment. Anyhow thanks for your insight. I appreciated it.... Sorry for my drunkenness. It happens......

It doesn't ruin it by any means. But it does not help either.
