My dad passed away suddenly on Tuesday night.I have been with my family since but had to come home today to get clothes etc for the funeral.I can't stop crying and keep getting scared that he's not here anymore.
Please cherish your parents, love and honour them. They are the foundations of who you are.

Let not the waves of the sea separate us now, and the years you have spent in our midst become a memory.
You have walked among us a spirit, and your shadow has been a light upon our faces.
Much have we loved you. But speechless was our love, and with veils has it been veiled.
Yet now it cries aloud unto you, and would stand revealed before you.
And ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation. [/i]

Thank you so much everyone for your kindness
I visited him last Saturday,he was so well, laughing and happy. It is how I will remember him.I was woken Tuesday night with a call from my sister telling me he had passed away.He had a heart attack.
"cantkeepmehere" you are so right, your wonderous words have calmed my soul today.
I am supposed to leave for Canada in five weeks to be with my heart.I didn't know what to do about my plans.I spoke to my family about it,it was very hard at a time when we have lost a great man who loved us loyally and I am planning to move away. But my family have been amazing and all said I must go,it is what my dad would have expected to happen and wanted to happen. He saw how much my heart loves me and how much I love him and how happy we make each other. So I will continue on with my plans.I know dad will be with me watching my new life unfold.
Take care of and love the ones you love ..... and let them know.
I remember reading your supportive post in my thread a few weeks ago when my Dad also died suddenly from a heart attack.
I know that although your circumstances are similar, I will never know what you are going through... no one will. But, if you need someone to talk to, I have a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. My PM box is always open.
My thoughts, prayers and love are with you.
Take care

Of course I remember reading about your own sweet dads passing. How your words ring to me now.I have p.m'd you.My thought are also with you as your healing begins
My dad was a deeply generous man,he worked hard to provide for his family,he liked a good laugh and loved listening to Ray Charles very loudly .... he taught us to be responsible compassionate humans. He leaves my mum,me,my brother and sister and his three grandchildren who he gave and gained such joy and happiness.
Thank you so much for everyones kindness.
I lost my mom 17 months ago out of nowhere as well. One day she was fine, next.....gone.
I compiled this from Pearl Jam lyrics for the remembrance card for her.
I will light the match this morning, so I won't be alone
Oh dear mom can you see me now?
I am myself like you somehow
No matter how cold the winter there's a springtime ahead
All five horizons revolved around her soul
Cannot find the comfort in this world
On my knees to rise and fix my broken soul
We face an undertow of futures laid to waste
Embraced by the loss of what we can not replace
And wherever you've gone and wherever we might go
It don't seem fair, you seemed to like it here
Your light's reflected now, reflected from afar
We were but stones, your light made us stars
I miss you already... I miss you always
I miss you already... I miss you all day
It's sad and we will always love you
My deepest sympathies to you and your family. You are in my thoughts and healing vibes are being sent your way.

And that's a nice quote you posted.
I send much love and compassion to the entire Pearl Jam community and feel proud to be part of it.
Thank you to everyone for your kindness and p.m's ..... the quote I attached to my thread is from a wonderful book called The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran .... I am not religious but have loved this book for many years when faced with times of trouble and needs of hope.
I plan to read the passage at my dads funeral on Wednesday,if I can hold it together but wanted to share it here.
Love to you all

i lost my father over 17 years ago, and a day does not pass that i don't think of him/miss him. it gets 'easier'....but you always feel that absence. i miss you already, i miss you always...
and when you're ready, i find man of the hour breaks your heart and gives you comfort at the same time.
hearts & thoughts....much love
dream
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow
warm thoughts and strenght to you and your family!
There are no words, so I wont really even try.
Stay strong, and cry when you need to.
From what you have posted in this thread about your father, he sounds like a great man.
again, I'm so very sorry.

I have a friend from college who recently lost a grandmother, and they've started a charity in her name where they'll do a walk in her memory to keep her memory alive. I thought that was a very nice thing to do for her and is helping their family cope in a truly positive way with their loss. When my grandmother passed, I did a collage of pictures of her for the wake and going through the photos and laughing at the memories made me feel better. There are different things to do that will make you reflect positively on the time that you had with your dad.
My heart goes out to you and your family in your loss. I will keep you all in my thoughts.
I'm glad you shared your grief with friends here because I'm one who truly believes that grief shared is grief divided. Only you can take your grief journey but at least you don't have to go there alone. I'm also glad you have happy memories of your last visit with your dad. Keep in mind that he will always be with you. Focus on whatever it will take to get you through the next few days. After that, concentrate on taking care of yourself. The world around you will return to "normal" which is sometimes comforting, sometimes not.
Like you, I lost my dad unexpectedly, 2 years ago this October. What also struck a chord with me was that I'd gone to see him on a Saturday and we'd talked and laughed as we always did. A few days later he collapsed from a ruptured aneurysm and never regained consciousness. He and I were very close and I miss him every day. I think it's hardest when I think of something that I want to call him up and tell him or talk to him about. But I also feel his presence in how he influenced me and how much I'm like him. For those things, I'm glad.
I would encourage everyone, as you did, to treasure your family. Hold them close. Let them know how you feel. They can be gone in an instant.
Morag, for now, try to rest when you can. If you can read from The Prophet at your dad's funeral that would be wonderful. But if you feel too stressed, ask someone else to read it. Your dad is proud of you no matter what. It sounds like he had a great life.
Take care of yourself,
Carolyn
The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math - The Mincing Mockingbird
Haunting familiar, yet I can't seem to place it.
Cannot find the candle of thought to light your name.
Lifetimes are catching up with me.
All these changes taking place.
I have added these lyrics as my dad was 79 and had Altzheimers for the last ten years of his life although he was otherwise physically healthy. There were good days when he seemed to recognise me but most days he would look at me and seem to be drinking me in as though he recognised me but could not quite place me.
For Christmas last year I made him a photo album of his life, marriage, children and grandchildren. When I visited we would look at the photos and he would laugh, wink and have a giggle at the photo's he remembered.Altzheimers is a strange condition ... dad could recognise photo's of his own parents who died many years ago but couldn't recognise a photo my mum taken a few days before.
My dad was an old school man, strong and big hearted who did all he could to provide for his family.I thought he was invincible.
In the end his heart was just tired and needed to rest.
Take care of you and your kin ... they are your shelter in the rain, your laughter in the sun and the wind in your hair.
Thank you to everyone for their continued kindness. xxooxx
