so i going to a ball game the same each and every time. seen one game seen em all?
TERRIBLE ANALOGY!
why isn't a ball game a fair comparison?
baseball... it's 9 innings, a pitcher pitches, a catcher catchs and hitters try to hit. at the end of the day, the winner always has more runs than the loser. seen one baseball game, seen em all.
Live all the way - and I'll extend that to every band out there. Can't beat the experience of seeing live music... the changes from night to night, getting to meet new people - it's all good. And I also agree with an earlier poster - I've been to concerts where I've been at the back of the room, and ones where I've been right up in front of the stage - there's no comparison, the closer to the stage you get the better your night will be!
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

Nothing beats being at a show. However, if i'm listening to recorded music i'd much rather listen to a studio album than a live recording.
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

that is like saying a Hamburger is a Hamburger no matter when you get it
worst thing i have ever heard, the greatest thing about sports is it is never the same and the scenarios change each game, i can see your not a sports fan
the general concept of the game is the same but the outcome is always different just like a PJ live show
surprise you every time
they are so much better live, as other post here I hardly ever listen to a studio album, besides the fact they sound much better live I also love to hear what Eddie says between songs, he is so fucking funny much of the time, I love it live!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the exchange of energy is something that will NEVER be captured in studio!!!
If I had known then...what I know now...

However as someone stated earlier without studio albums, there is no live.
The energy of a Pearl Jam show cannot be expressed properly in words, for me it is a transcendent experience every time
To the nut who thinks every show's the same, you are so WRONG it's laughable. I've seen them at all kinds of venues and from shit seats to 10 feet away at Irving Plaza, there's a BIG difference man. Plus what about that whole singing along with a crowd of like minded people, all screaming the same lines that fill you with joy every time, can't beat that!
I was at the 2nd Seattle show last week and for a guy from Jersey who's seen them over 20 times it was amazing to finally see them at home. No it wasn't the best PJ show I've been to, but it was different than any of the previous shows I've been to. Seeing them at the Gorge is not the same as seeing them at MSG or Irving Plaza or Bonnaroo, each show is unique... and amazing
Oh, if I knew where it was, I would take you there, but there's much more than this.
Ooooh. Whoooa, much more than this. Woooh see the world. Much more than... Oooh, much more than.. Why?
id rather have a new studio album every 2 years (like back in the good ole days of PJ) instead of every 3-4 years...
I know im gonna get bashed for this, BUT
YOU SEEN PJ ONCE IN CONCERT, YOU SEEN IT ALL!
Thats my opinion.......
wow, your opinion is really wrong. there are so many variables that make this untrue:
1. your vantage point (i've seen them from the 3rd row and from the upper deck and from the lawn. these are all different experiences.
2. they never play the same setlist twice
3. ed fucking up the lyrics makes each show unique
4. the venue makes it different. if you only go see them at one venue, it's still different for the reasons above
5. WITH EACH NEW ALBUM, more new songs to hear live.
6. There are more, but you get the idea.
As for the original question, it's not really a question. PJ is the best live rock band in the world. their studio recordings exist only to provide new material for touring.

LMFAO....you are the one who spends a shit load of money traveling across the country to see them over and over again.....why not put that $ away for your kids's college fund?!
All those trips around the country were eye opening fun adventures me and my girl had together and cherish Those trips changed our lives. When we decided to go to the Gorge shows we had already planned the trip across country, we extended it to see Pearl Jam Thanks to that trip my girl and me fell in love with the Pacific North West and moved here Music, especially Pearl Jam's has lead me to a lot of places and experiences I otherwise wouldn't have been to. Money is just money, I spend it on what makes me happy if I have any to spare
Don't know about you but life's an adventure for us

Fair play to you for not bowing to the mob mentality.
A better analogy would have been Oasis concerts.

i am surpised my CD player hasnt burnt a hole in my 2000 & 2003 boots yet.
mike's guitar is crying at the end.
corduroy's coming up with my favorite solo for this song ever.
they opened with the same 2 songs last year when i saw them and it's like 2 different songs for me.
so i'll say live.
and even though you hear a lot of the same songs each version has it's own personal touch each time.
no show is the same
On topic: why chose when you can have both?

Everything (pre Matt Cameron) sounds better studio. Riot Act, Binaural, S/T, and Backspacer all sound great live though!
