I was in my camper in Vermont, at a tournament with the unlost dogs. We woke up Sunday morning to something like 18" of heavy, wet snow. The campsite doesn't have power hookups, so I had my generator with me (as did the other campers).

It was weird hoisting a ladder to the roof and removing all that snow.

They didn't lose power while we were there _ but the ride home down Route 2 back to Boston was interesting. So many trees down, and the lights were out at the lighted intersections.

I hope this isn't a taste of what's to come this winter.

Lots of discussion hereabouts regarding needing to bury utility wires underground. But it would cost something outrageous like $1 million per mile.

I guess unlost is glad to clean off 18" of snow rather than wake up in 18" of water inside of the camper...

I just got off the phone with a client who wanted me to add someone to his guestlist at his housing program. The client puts me on the phone with a woman so I can get the correct spelling of her name. He thought he had hung up, but didn't, so I go to hear the negotiation. I like her style. She doesn't haggle. She's making him pay. He is going to be very disappointed when he finds out it takes 24 hours to update his guestlist. ...Check days are always entertaining in my world.

with all the crappy weather, my son's soccer team has had a grand total of 2 practices and 1 game for October. Tonight's make up game that has been rescheduled twice had to be postponed yet again as the fields are still wet from the snow. So with the season ending 11/13 we now have 5 games in 7 days (barring any more weather)

we lost power for 2-3 days, tops during the hurricane and went insane!
my mom then bought me and my 2 sisters each our own generator. in fact, just got ours delivered the other day. mr. dream just needs to assemble and then we're prepared, good to go for future emergencies. you can then thank my mom for that purchase, b/c there will now no longer BE any of these kinds of emergencies...at least on LI.

700 bucks to register a car? holy crap...or was that just the purchase tax or do you have to pay that every year.

Basis of the Excise AssessmentThe motor vehicle excise is imposed for the privilege of registering a motor vehicle.
Registering a motor vehicle automatically triggers the assessment of the excise.

We are exceedingly privileged here in Massachusetts.

It's an annual tax, but typically is less and less as the vehicle's value declines each year.

Oooh! I was thinking of something else then. We tried to be sneaky and bought the car in Lake County but got a bill from Cook County saying we owed them taxes. Bastards.

That's a ridiculous tax there in Massachusetts!!!

It's one of many, many ridiculous taxes here in the Bay State. Or, I should say, the Pay State.

(Did you see what I did there?)

Other than that, it's all marshmallows, rainbows and festive sing-a-longs up here in the northeast corner of the country.

Does anyone live within city limits? I think the City of Chicago charges an excise tax on LEASED vehicles of 6% per month...so, not only do you get to pay sales tax when you lease a vehicle, you also get to pay them an amount equal to 6% of your monthly car payment as a "use tax".

Im pretty sure thats how it works...my ex leased a car while living with me in suburban cook county then when he moved out and registered his car at his new address in Chicago, all of a sudden his monthly car payment went up and he was totally confused...(ha ha ha ha :P)

hahahaha Well, I have always wanted to be a talk show host. I think I put that in the what did you want to be when you grow up thread. ... I love this idea. Although Dora freaks me out a bit and peyote would only make her more freaky. Which would make for great TV. I hope we could invite Chad's crazy old millionaire neighbor to join us. i like that guy. I'm in.
