My kid is afraid of power tools in woodwork class. I should probably start letting her cut her own pancakes!

Why have youth sports become so time consuming. I actually enjoy watching my son play, but every coach in every sport he plays have pushed travel team options.

Not only are they expensive but you go out of state most weekends.

Yes, competition travel sure adds up. But it's money well spent. :)

It makes it so that kids from lower income families and/or with parents who aren't willing or able to put in the time can't participate in the sports. It's not a good thing IMO. Sports are becoming less and less accessible for a certain demographic of children and it sucks.

^ True. Good point. The Yukon team that Pipsqueak played against had First Nation parents who advocated for a sports funds for their children. The Metis Nation BC also has an athletic achievement fund. It's nice that some kids from these typically lower socioeconomical backgrounds have grants their adult(s) can access.

What I appreciate about competitive sports is that my kiddo has a larger pool of friends who don't vape or smoke weed. I spent the whole month of August intervening because the 11-year-olds started vaping and doing marijuana in the parks in my neighborhood this summer, especially those children who were left to their own devices and not taken to the beach. Weed is easily obtained from their parents supply. My kiddo can't walk to the corner store for a slushie and not be offered nicotine or cannabis.

I don't shop anywhere that advertises vapes. Fuckin killers.

Our in state travel team is if free for people who can't afford it. The problem is most people don't know to or are too embarrassed to ask for a "scholarship". The soccer club wouldn't need to collect any money from anyone for years before it started to run out.

Out of state travel is mostly run by for profit coaches. Baseball in particular is very expensive.

My son is on u12 teams. Plays mostly with kids from other towns and it's been great. The kids are almost all like him. Very positive and he's made some real good friends.

I got the ok from my cardiologist to get a tattoo! Hurray! I'll get a PJ stickman holding a cup of coffee. The PJ stickman has a pink bow in their hair. Magenta was my first favorite color.

Anyone else have PJ stickman with accessories  tattoos?
