I have been experiencing reverse discrimination to the max over the past few months and it is boggling my mind!
It is by the Detroit cops. Because I am white, I have recived two misdemeanor violations over a 2 month period.
The cops, the lawyers at the court house, etc. all admit it is because I am white and have no business in the city of Detroit. They mean in the neighborhoods. They think I should only be on the main streets and freeways. !! !! I have been in a neighborhood a few times to see a friend. She is kinda shady, well actually she is just poor, which causes her to have to do some things shady, like she was squatting and I got caught in her home. There were 5 of us there, but because I am from the suburbs, I am the only one who got arrested. She didn't even get arrested and is still living there with water, lights, gas and all!!
So, maybe it isn't because I am white, but because I am from the 'burbs, because there were 2 other white people there when I was the only one who got arrested. The charge was entering without permission. She had let me in, but I ended up taking a plea. The judge said he'd hold it for 90 days and if I don't get in any trouble, it would be dismissed. I thought that would be a breeze, since I haven't been in trouble for 45 years!!
HA!! 3 hours after he told me that, I got arrested again. In Detroit!! I parked on a side street. Looking for said friend, who was gonna pay half the fine. It was $125.00. It was a different street, but I was told she would be over at this other place. I knew not to go in or anything...but I didn't even get to the house. I parked, got out of car, walked to sidewalk across from car, and a guy stopped me asking me what I wanted. I told him I was looking for her. He said she hadn't been around in a while. So, I jogged back to car. All of a sudden, a cop car penned me in. Both cops got out yelling, "where's the drugs, where's the drugs" and started searching me.
They didn't find anything and gave me back the ID they were shocked I had, but then asked for it back, saying "I am going to give you an arrest ticket for lying to me". I asked what did I lie about and he said he doesn't feel sorry for heroin addicts!!!!
He gave me an arrest ticket for "loitering in an area where drugs are bought, sold, or given away"! Its a 90 day misdemeanor, plus the first judge is gonna be pissed!!
I was not loitering, buying, selling, doing drugs, etc. It was noon and sunny. How the fudge am I suppose to know where the drug areas are? The whole city is, isn't it? But, those streets are also used for other reasons, like living, etc, aren't they. Hell, my street could be called a "drug area"! They should put up signs saying its a drug area, since they seem to know it is. The signs should say, if you are from elsewhere, don't drive here or get arrested! I do have rights. Its like the 'right to gather' thing. I can be on a street for no apparent reason. I have researched this. I was thinking, well maybe you can't just be on a street without a valid reason. Like, can you, where you live, drive to some area that you have no business in and take a jog without it being a crime?
I cannot! At least that is what they are telling me. I know I can, but in the city of Detroit, the courts operate different than they do out here in the burbs. I don't really get to say anything and the court appointed attorney really is a public defender who takes care of all the cases in the courtroom, so I don't really get a lawyer and I cannot afford one. Like on that first charge, he said lets go to trial or take the plea bargain. That is not what I wanted. I wanted a lawyer who would negotiate, like they do in the suburbs. I have spoke with a few lawyers who all said they could get this dismissed in one appearance and $500.00. The same with the first case, but the public defender only comes up with taking a plea or going to trial.
BS! I will go to trial on this one, but once again I will face BS! It is not a jurty of MY peers. The citizens of Detroit have been brainwashed in believing there is an artificial war line at 8 mile rd. (the border btw. Detroit and the suburbs). One of our old mayors use to say it all the time. They also have been preached to that WE come into the city to do our drugs and crime then run to our nice neighborhoods in the suburbs. They hate us coming over there, unless they are drug dealers selling drugs to us. So, it would not be a trial by MY peers.
I am just pissed. I might figure out how to get this one lawyer to take this case. In the meanwhile, I guess I have to stay out of Detroit. Arggghhhh!!!!
I love the city and the people in it!! I love the neighborhoods especially. I was raised in the area where both these incidences took place. My parents live just the other side of 8 mile from there, less than a mile away, but it may as well be half a world away, since it is out of the city limits. I just love the whole thing there.
F'ers are taking it away from me. The cop said to me, "you are gonna get killed down here". WTF!! My 90+ parents are there all the time, but there ID says how close they are, mine says I am like 25 miles away.
The cops don't want to here the story about how I am from there to begin with, they just get it in their heads I MUST be there for drugs or otherwaise why would I be there? Like, do they really think that low of the city they are there to serve and protect? I don't see it as that bad...It will never change to the good with the attitudes I experineced, by cops, judges, lawyers, etc., within the city. They cannot see the city being good for anything else but drugs and crime and it MUST be the only attraction someone like me would have to it.
ARGH!! I just love the old neighborhoods. The closeness the people have to one another. They are so genuine.
