I'm still saving my "I told you so" for next week when it's official and the sales figures are well above predictions. They waited until nobody was telling them to do it to do it....and it's fucking beautiful. Can you imagine if they had put this album out 10 years ago? They'd have stayed as big as they were and now they'd be gone. Love is a tower.

As I wrote in another thread it will depend on how many Jay-Z moves on his 3rd week, 450k to 300k to???
Backspacer will do around 200k at best.
No way will Jay Z move that many in his third week. He only sold 450k his first week. Pearl Jam should easily be the top record and if they sell 200,000 in the first week in this music climate that is huge. The days of bands selling 1 million are over and if a band or rapper can hit 500,000 the first week that is huge and it hardly ever happens.
I think that says more about the state of the record industry than it does about Pearl Jam, good for them though, I bought 2 of em
Hardly they have always debut towards the top of the chart. Self titled debuted at number 2. I know Pearl jam fans on this message board seem to think that Pearl Jam has no fans but they still are one of the biggest bands in the United States and the world.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHO THE OTHER BANDS ARE IN THAT ARTICLE
Five Finger Death Punch is actually pretty good if you're into a little bit harder stuff

200,000 copies would be nothing 10 years ago, that's what I'm saying. The fact that they can sell only at Target and Pearljam.com also shows the state of the record industry. NOBODY must be buying albums

Crazy how much constitutes a #1 record now. To think they sold over a million in one week when Vs came out.
Not quite. "Vs." sold 950,000 copies the first week. "Vitalogy" sold 877,000.
The all-time best first-week sales number of the SoundScan era (which dates to 1991) was posted by 'N Sync when "No Strings Attached" moved 2.4 million copies the first week (including 1.1 million on the first day. 'N Sync also had the second-best first-week sales number with "Celebrity."
Cher's record is for most time between first and most recent number one singles, and Pearl Jam hasn't even been a band for as long as Cher's record: 33 years between "I Got You Babe" (with Sonny) in 1965 and "Believe" in 1998.
For albums, the Beatles had a 36-year span between #1 albums (1964's "Meet the Beatles" to 2000's "1"). Led Zeppelin had a 34-year span (1969's "Led Zeppelin II" to 2003's "How the West Was Won").
Bruce Springsteen could end up topping both. His first number one album was "The River" (1980) and his most recent was "Working on a Dream" (2009). He also bests Pearl Jam in that he went 15 years between number one albums from "Tunnel of Love" (1987) to "The Rising" (2002). None of his three intervening albums topped the chart. Beginning with The Rising," Springsteen has seen four consecutive studio albums of original material reach number one.
Frank Sinatra just missed having a number one album 47 years after his first chart-topper (1946) when "Duets" peaked at number two in 1993.

Which begs the question, will Pearl Jam be the next Cher?

It was a little bit of both, actually.
