Thinking about it, every single song could be released as a single. However, I think they should hold Just Breathe or Unthought Known as the third single. Next one needs to be something catchy and upbeat.
Either 'Amongst The Waves' or 'Gonna See My Friend'.
'Supersonic' could have been in witha shout as a radio friendly pop song if it hadn't already been used as a B-side.
Got Some is next, and if it goes well they will have a third single - Just Breathe
Amongst The Waves or Unthought Known would do better than Just Breathe, in my opinion. They are the songs that sound most like the old anthemic PJ - and look what happened when Brother hit the radio a few months back.

I like Amongst the Waves or Unthough better, I think they will thake the hint from Itunes where Just Breathe is doing really well. Currently # 58 of all songs.
While my favorite song on the new album is Got Some, I get the feeling they would slow it down for the second single so my guess would be "Amongst the Waves" or "Just Breathe". "Unthought Known" is one of the best songs they've ever done period and that could make it the next single. It's too hard to guess.
I don't understand the logic that Unthought Known would be a wise choice for a single. It's not catchy at all. It's one of the best songs on the album, but it wouldn't be a good single at all. Got Some, Just Breathe, and Force of Nature would be solid choices.
just breathe if they want to feel the last kiss effect.
I'm not saying its like that song, but it would hit with the same market - the mass appeal radio market, and that will ensure this is kept at the top of the pile.
Could you imagine the Britney and ga ga fans buying this after hearing just breathe on the radio and then trying to work out GSMF and supersonic...

Hard to imagine!!
I don't think Got Some will be released as a single! Just Breathe would be great, or Amongst The Waves! The third single should be Unthought Known

Agreed, it's a great album track and possibly the best on the album but it's never a single.

I don't think Got Some will do well on radio whatsoever. It's a good song, but Amongst the Waves or Force of Nature would be the better choice and I'm not sure that they would succeed. Unthought Known is the best song on the album (imo) but it wouldn't make for a good single as it really doesn't have a chorus. That's my take anyways...I just think if Got Some is released, the album plummets and will have a hard time selling 500k copies.
I am going to go out on the limb and say that whether it's the next single or a single later on that Just Breathe may end up being Pearl Jam's greatest radio phenomenom. I can just picture that song being played across formats and just blowing up. I love the song, but that is not why I'm saying this, it just has the right sound for it. I bet you it gets crazy air play even without being officially released as a single (Black-style).

You gotta be kidding me?! I'll probably regret saying this, but stylistically it isn't dissimilar to any number of Coldplay's singles, which all do well in the charts. I'm not saying it sounds just like them or that they have been any sort of influence, but it has that same build to crescendo, and anthemic driving pop sound to it. Plus Ed uses his 'Ten' voice, and the casual fans seem to lap that up.
it will be Got Some and IMO should be. its a great song that works on radio.
I think Unthought Known is great, but wouldnt make a good single. outside of the album it doesnt work as well. and i'm not sure what radio station would play it. is it rock? alternative? pop? adult contemporary?
I have a feeling it will be Amongst the Waves. Either that or Got Some. I think it should be Force of Nature though.

I think Unthought Known is the best song on the album but I'm skeptical too as to how well it would do as a single. The sure thing would be Just Breathe. It's an excellent song with a very catchy melody that has that Last Kiss type crossover appeal. I think if it's the next single, Backspacer goes Plantinum.
Amongst the Waves would be a nice single too, although not nearly as effective at drawing in the masses like Just Breathe would. Regarding Got Some, it's one of my favs off the album, but I don't think a lot of non-PJ fans will dig it. Just my opinion...

I dunno, I still think the end of Amongst The Waves is as close to the Ten sound that PJ have come in years, and that seems to be the record most casual fans like the most.

Just Breathe and Amongst the Waves are basically tied for me as the 2nd best song on Backspacer, but it's tough to say which one would be better as a radio hit. I think both would do well, but Just Breathe might edge out ATW since it would appeal more to the females.
Comments
I think all of those would do well on the radio. I think they would be fools not to release Unthought Known too.
I think the whole album is one of the best they've made.. and there are a lot of songs that could be chosen to be the next single...
