    That's pretty much what I said, isn't it? :P

no, otherwise i'd not have asked...
i was simply curious why for this topic, it cracks you up...yet for other, equally innane topics..i can see you sharing your opinion over and over. so was merely curious over why it's humorous here, but not elsewhere. and no, i am not you...thus why i was askin'. ;)
It kinda cracks me up that some of you have put this much effort into your interpretations of these songs, defending them on this board, and discrediting others' interpretations....
how is that ^^^ NOT the same thing? effort into interpretations, defending them on the board, discrediting others' interpretations = discussing, no? semantics....
I guess the disconnect comes in personal interpretation of 'innane'. suprised to see so much back and forth, that's all...merely an observation m'dear, don't get yer panties in a bunch :P

The little breath you hear at the very end of "The End" sounds like the last breath we hear from Chris McCandless in Into the Wild.

ok i have to weigh in on gonna see my friend bc the lyrics are the best on the album imo

First half of the song is an addict who wants quit a bad habit, but still thinks its fun and enjoyable. He knows its bad but is like "f it" Buona sera it wont be long before..." So he's saying good evening friend, give me something!

Then second half of the song is the guy saying I want to get over this damn habit!! " I wanna feel withdrawl... I wanna see it gone once and for all..."

Maybe this song is about eddie and pot? I read that he quit when he had his daughter but then started up again and decided to put a fire pole through his house ;)

It's a song about a drug intervention ... and I agree with you ... the first half is about a guy wanting to do the drug, the second half is about a guy wanting to stop ... or, wanting to help his friend stop.

my panties are not in a bunch, i leave that to you and your panties....;)

    just to refresh:
It kinda cracks me up that some of you have put this much effort into your interpretations of these songs, defending them on this board, and discrediting others' interpretations.... Statements made by Ed about the songs are all we'll ever know regarding specific inspirations...everything else is your own personal take on it...

does it crack you up that perhaps some of us simply enjoy discussing our personal take on lyrics? i enjoy sharing mine, and hearing others, lyrical interpretations. it's extremely interesting discussion to me. i think most here has been 'discussion' and very few 'i'm right, you're wrong' kind of posts. given that we are on a rock's band message board, in a section for 'all things pearl jam'...it appears entirely logical to me that such discussions would take place here. art IS all about personal interpretation, no matter what the creator of said art had in mind when creating. i think it's one of the major 'points' of art, and of enjoying art. of course, that's just imo. ;)

um, no....not the same thing. you are in a sense 'insulting' the efforts put forth into the discussion and also accuse people defending/attacking, which i was illustrating really isn't the case with most, that it is is simply dialogue, not discredit....yet you can put forth the same degree of efforts, sometimes much more...for other topics equally as unimportant'...so it merely expresses, interest....so my question was, why? and hell, even this back/forth....shouldn't it crack you up that we BOTH put forth efforts into such dialogue? ;)

and yes, therein lies the 'disconnect'....and thus why, for a topic of no interest, why one chooses to weigh in and simply express their disinterest 'cracks me up'. but of course, that is me and you're not me, as you say....

crazy, discussing pearl jam lyrics in depth....back and forth......on a pearl jam message board, in a forum dedicated to all things pearl jam. crazy funny! however, entirely logical to argue over if a woman should shave certain parts, or not, or how.....far more logical a debate to have here. ;)

hey now let's not throw that thread under the bus

that was a very edumacational thread ;) :P

Was that in the thread dissecting the lyrics to Johnny Guitar?

you need to visit AET more.
    or not.
    it may rot your brain.

(also why i spend so much time there usually)

norm, i mention it for illustrative purposes only....i enjoy that discussion as well. innane topics are my forte, especially regarding subjective opinions, societal constructs, and that includes shaving practices ANd lyrical interpretations. i am a modern-day renaissance woman.

I saw the thread in question over there a few days ago. It scared the bejesus out of me, so I got the hell out of there. I think I'm too frightened to go back.

    man jeff, you scare easily.....;)
and yet, you post regularly here, on MT...i wonder what that says about us all and specifically about AET?

    however, getting back on topic....

clearly, all of this illustrates that ed certainly is dying. how else can you interpret it? ;)

jeebus, you are the most argumentative person I've ever known  I was in a bit of a masochistic mood at lunch, so I weighed in just for you. Hopefully I'll feel properly humiliated, and my panties will be uncomfortably bunched by the time I give you the last word ;)
This thread is dominated by a few people. I thought it would be one of those threads that people offered an opinion and went away. Wasn't expecting the discussion....(on a message/bulletin board ;) ). ...and yes, I crack myself up too! The fact that I could one day get fired for this stupidity, yet I can't help but check for responses every half hour.....guffaw!

Who was arguing in that other thread? sure wasn't me....I posted once.
Since we're 'splitting hairs', this thread IS in the wrong forum :P

and there it is., the inevitable frustrated response when i actually continue to make my point. ;)
i don't get the humilation tho, but if that's what you're into.....enjoy it later.

and hey, i getcha there...oftentimes i open a thread thinking one thing and it turns out to be something enitrely different; sometimes that's good, sometimes it's horribly wrong.

also, as you mentioned earlier with the "disconnect"...i don't see it as domination, nor do i see this thread as at all argumentative. i see it as people who are truly interested in it, participating, and all weighing in with varying opinions, adding on more layers....discussing.....and so it goes....

as to that other thread, again, since *I* was not discussing arguing as the point of my mentioning that other thread (but people indeed there WAS some 'argument' over the topic...see dunk's posts :P).....but simply pointing out how i don't see it as odd, or something to be 'cracked up' over....is a disucssion of lyrics on a band's website....yet shaving opinions is not odd. (wasn't referencing specific forums, just the IDEA...discussing a band's lyrics on their website, or female shaving options...which is more 'odd' to occur? that was all) but yes, again...it is due to the dapparent disconnect on how we individually even view this topic/discussion, since it is more than apparent just how differently we see it.

as to this being in the 'wrong' forum...perhaps the mods let it go since backspacer just came out this week and we are discussing a LOT more than 'just' the individual lyrics, but overall themes of the album. however, if you believe it's in the wrong forum, do be sure to alert the mods...i'm sure they will move it to it's proper place if deemed necessary. :)

anyhoo.....it was a simple question. i was merely curious as to what exactly was amusing. now i see it's simply HOW you and i view this whole thread so differently. i see a discussion, you see an arguement.....i see people thoughtful response...you see people who spend far too much time dissecting lyrics, etc. i just found the comment odd. so i asked....no 'humiliating agenda' my friend. since you actually haven't weighed in with an opinion on the actual thread topic, your thoughts on the themes, etc.....guess that's it!
