Like all the rest, love this song too. At first I thought, it sounded recycled from Into the Wild but there's something more to it, alot of depth. The parachutes of this album methinks. Having said that when I first heard the titled I couldn't help but think of Lindsay Lohan who has a tattoo on her on that reads "breath". Don't know why I thought of that. :?
a beautiful song that has mad depth to it.... one of these days I'll be so lucky as ot have someone to sing it to. Until then it reminds me to appreciate the ones I have near that I love dearly and all they mean to me.And to Just Breathe the rest will work itself out.
hi everybody...this is the very first time i post something...even when I'm a Pearl Jam fan for a long long while
I must confess when i was listening to the Backspacer for the first time....this song instantly got me....I started to cry when i listened to it....the lyrics are so touching....so beatiful...
It reminds me of Joshua....the love of my life....who was left behind in another country...
One of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard - such depth. And live it's absolutely AMAZING -- Eddie played it with a 4-person string section on LA nights 1&2 - hoping they come back for 3&4 and SD.
on a different note: some guy on some opinion site said he hated this song because it didn't have "drums." This is also the song that pretty summed up his opinion on hating the entire album. :(
So sad, it's such a great song. It does sound like it was a b-side off Into the Wild, but it's really good. Plus, Pearl Jam have done songs without drums before. Whoever said that is obviously not a pj fan, or just wants attention.
It's very soft and warming. It's a great song before Amongst the Waves. It's a great song.
i LOVE IT! right from the first time i heard the album...with headphones on...and, yes, i cried! and i don't care if i'll cry when i hear it live in 21 days (uuuhhh, it's getting close!!!) and people'll think i'm a grown up baby! also, if Ed says there's the other side i feel better believing that there is one. my family lives on the other side of the world, so when i listen to this song i think of that other side too...God, i miss them!
I have a story about this song that is unfortunately true and will stay with me forever. On March 13th of this year my beautiful wife lost her almost 2 year battle with breast cancer. As you all know, Pearl Jam played SNL that night. Lynn passed away at 11 pm that night and though I didn't see it at the time with all that was taking place. PJ walked out and performed this Just Breathe a short while later. When I found that out, I got a different feel for this song that I had previously. Needless to say this song brings me to tears most times and makes me smile at the same time in some weird way. I found it ironic and fitting that they would play that a short while after she left us here on earth. "hold me til I die, meet you on the other side" . I take comfort in that phrase as I know I'll see her again. If I ever get to meet Eddie and the band in person, I will tell them what a wonderful song they wrote and what a great woman my wife was. I will go to my grave thanking them both for the impact they have had on my life. See you in Hartford and Boston and thanks for being such a great band. You have no idea how this affected me and will forever.
Ludlow, I feel your pain and appreciate your feelings for this song. In February my wife went into labor after only 17 weeks, and delivered a son. Our boy didn't survive since he was too small and his lungs were not developed. Needless to say "Just Breathe" really hits me hard every time I listen to it. A beautiful song, especially since it can touch people in so many ways. My wife & I are lucky to have more than one hand full of friends that we leaned on during our time. The lyrics feel like they were written directly for us, as I'm sure many feel. The song is beautiful, but due to the time it was released I don't think I'll ever link this with another time of my life. The song was difficult to get through last night at the (5/9/10) Cleveland show. I wish you the best and hope you have plenty of friends, family and music to get you through.
