if you were actually informed about the target deal, i don't think you'd consider this selling out at all. i think this commercial is perfectly fine. they need to advertise for the record they are releasing on their own. target allowed them to sell the record at indie shops and through their fan club (both avenues other retailers would not allow). PJ insisted this be part of the deal and Target was willing to agree. I think the whole thing is actually pretty awesome and if you knew anything about the record business or the background on this deal, you would see how smart it was (and how it's actually the opposite of selling out (if you were a band that wanted to sell any records at all, that is)).0

Id say the fixer video, even with a huge target sign, and most probably "fake" fans ( im not claiming this as fact, it just appears that way) . Is way better than the feeling life wasted gave to me now that i think about it. I'm actually watching it for the first time again since it came out.... great song but the video sort of left me going "ummm"
though i love this cover, which was taken from the video
but this shit is just creepy

I can relate to this one though, since i too sometimes feel like a confused, disembodied head at the bottom of a fish tank

This guy says something about that:Drewcool wrote:SOLAT319 wrote:It's OK to have a commercial for your new album if you want to promote it. My problem is that for a band with gazillion rabid fans, they really didn't have to pay whole bunch of actors to act like they were all so excited to be there. It should have been a TenClub thing.
All of them were recently layed-off workers that the band employed and paid out of generosity.I have no patience for bad music and stupid people...

and the video kicks ass
No it does not. I think everyone here expected something better when Cameron Crowe was set to create a video for Pearl Jam. That video looks like a first-time After Éffects test.
I was disspointed. They had an acclaimed director and fan and they could not come up with anything better?
The life wasted video atleast had some artistic qualites, even though it doesn't fit the song and is sort of borting after a while.
When you hear Gondry is making a new video for WHite Stripes you get excited, when Crowe shot a video for PJ you get excited. WHen Gondry makes a video for WHite Stripes you don't get disspointed. They should have gotten a creative/talented musicvideo director or why not use Clinch? Everything he's done for the band looks so freaking good.
EDIT:
BUT. The Target commercial looks better than the musicvideo. Cut down and more rapid."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0
