I was just watchin TV with my roommate and the commercial just came on and I have to say I felt more embarrassed than anything. It was the first time I saw it on TV, caught by surprise, and I think it is easily the lamest thing they have ever done in their career. I hope people don't tell me they saw this and rip on em cause that will just piss me off haha.

It's OK to have a commercial for your new album if you want to promote it. My problem is that for a band with gazillion rabid fans, they really didn't have to pay whole bunch of actors to act like they were all so excited to be there. It should have been a TenClub thing.

All of them were recently layed-off workers that the band employed and paid out of generosity.

Unless you were there yourself as one of those actors, then I will have to ask for proof. Well, I still wanna see proof even if you WERE there :)

I like it.. I don't see how it's cheesy. Its just the band playing in front of a small audience. What the fuck do you want, Life Wasted video?
  • II was watching late night TV on Thursday night before I went to bed, and I nodded off. However, I was suddenly awakened by the familiar sounds of `The Fixer`. It was so bizarre. I can`t recall ever seeing a Pearl Jam advertisement. It was wicked weird, and slightly uncomfortable. I felt as though I was having a dream about Pearl Jam selling out, but then I woke up and realized it was reality.

Obviously, Pearl Jam can do as they please. If they want to sell out, it`s their prerogative. I like the music, and that`s all that matters. Admittedly, however, it is a little disappointing.

Selling out is making music to sell something other than the music.. Pearl Jam has hardly sold out by promoting their own fucking music.. and the video kicks ass. All it is is the band rocking out..

Some people need to pull sticks out of their asses. Pearl Jam doesn't always need to do something political or mind blowing. They are allowed to just have fun every now and then.. The video is fun.. More fun Pearl Jam PLEASE!

Its just the Fixer live, sure its cut down, and has many Target symbols in it. But it would be the same commercial without the Target logos if they werent exclusive with Target.

See thats what I dont get why people think theyre sellouts now, besides the Target logos, theres nothing else in the video that says anything about Target except the album is at Target and on iTunes, if they wrote a song for Target, I might be thinking about this differently. But this is a band that actually released an album to decrease their fan base and fame. That already cuts out anything about them even having the term "sellout" in my opinion.

It seems like people today are only trying to find negatives.

    You`re right.

And I am not trying to be negative. It was just weird, is all. I remember when they promoted Yield, but even that commercial, I only saw a couple times and it was clearly promoting the album and not an individual corporation.

I realize they`re promoting their album, but it felt more like a Target commercial than a commercial to promote their album.

Again, not being negative. It was just weird.

I hear you on the "weird" part.. they haven't really done this type of stuff in a while, if ever.. It felt odd at first for me too, but then I reminded myself just to lighten up a bit.

so you didn't have a problem with them signing that mega million dollar contract back in the early 90's with sony that made them set for life or all those letterman appearances or the yield commercial or the 00 bootlegs that bought even more millions of dollars.

that wasn't selling out to you huh.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
    Sammi: Wanna just break up?

There's different ways to look at it. You could argue that the Yield commercial was a promotion of Sony as much as the band...or maybe it was a commercial for whatever that crappy car was ;)

It's not like they were selling appliances.. it was the Target symbol in the background.. It felt more like a Pearl Jam video to me..
