Anyone else getting the Avocado record and track listing when they listen to Backspacer on Windows Media Player? I'm using version 11 and I'm reasonably sure I've never even played Avocado on this pc.....

When I pop in the cd it loads the special Backspacer screen and then when I launch the Media Player after choosing 'Play Backspacer' I get the Avocado track listing and artwork but Backspacer audio. Weird.

    Pearl Jam: Backspacer CD FAQ

Are you experiencing technical issues with your Backspacer CD?

    A. If your Backspacer bonus content is not working, it could be that your system does not meet the minimum system requirements needed to run Backspacer.

    Minimum System Requirements:

    PC
Microsoft® Windows® XP, Vista operating systems.
SVGA 1024x768 resolution and 24-bit color display.
AMD or Intel 1Ghz processor or better.
    516 MB RAM or better.
    CD-ROM drive.
    Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 6.0 or later.
    Flash 10
    Internet Connection.

    Mac
    Apple® Mac® OS X 10.4 or better operating system.
SVGA 1024x768 resolution and 24-bit color display.
Apple® G3 or Intel Solo 1Ghz processor or better.
    516 MB RAM or better.
    CD-ROM drive.
    Apple® Safari® 3.0 or higher
    Flash 10
    Internet Connection.

    B. The Audio CD is playing, but I cannot see the Backspacer bonus content.

Was your media player open when you loaded the CD? If so, there may be a conflict of resources as your media player is trying to play the audio session. Depending on your computer platform, media player, and user preference settings, the Backspacer bonus content may not auto-load. In general, if you close your media player, you will be able to launch the Backspacer bonus content by right clicking on the Backspacer icon on your desktop (Mac) or in your My Computer view (PC)

PC: the disc is programmed to automatically launch the eBridge program application when the disc is inserted. There are exceptions to this function based on the user’s system settings/preferences which cannot be overridden.

Note: When the disc is inserted, a small application will automatically run in order to detect whether the disc’s audio session is being accessed by the optical drive. If the drive is busy, then a message will appear. “Your CD drive is busy with playback or ripping. Please pause drive activity and then click “OK” to access bonus materials.”

NOTE: If iTunesTM is open, iTunesTM will prompt to import the audio from the disc and will not allow the eBridge application to auto-launch. This is expected behavior as it is a user-defined preference within the iTunesTM (see below).

Mac: the eBridge program application will mount to the desktop and will need to be launched manually. This is normal behavior for a Mac.

NOTE: If iTunesTM is open, iTunesTM will prompt to import the audio from the disc and will not allow the eBridge application to auto-launch. This is expected behavior as it is a user-defined preference within the iTunesTM (see below).

    C. If your bonus content is still not opening contact support to access your bonus content.

Please click on the Support and submit a support claim.
  • No error messages and I meet all the minimum requirements. Tried it in another pc and same deal. Avocado tracks and artwork - Backspacer audio. I'm thinking it's a digital error on the disc somehow. All the Backspacer bonus content also loads AOK.

Thanks for the post but I think the technical issue is with the media, not the player. ;)

whew, i thought i was the only one that got the Avocado album icon and the 1st 11 songs as the tracklist
  • I had the same problem and I suspect it might be just that the Windows Media player doesn't have the album listed on their system yet. It's a problem I more usually encounter with cds from local musicians (well, less well known local musicians than Pearl Jam).

Maybe because iTunes has the exclusive for the digital and you can't buy it from the online store associated with the Windows player?

In any case, it is annoying.

yeah, it's fucking annoying. there are several threads about this. i've been waiting for windows media player to find the right info before uploading it onto my mp3 player because i don't wanna key it all in manually - but i might not be able to wait much longer...

I've not had the WMP show the 'wrong' thing before, just nothing if it wasn't in the library. Unknown Artist, Unknown Album. From what I understand, there's an extra bit of data on the disc that displays the tracks/artwork so if the manufacturer doesn't add that information, it won't be there. If the wrong data is there, that shows. I'm not entirely sure though.

I had this happen with the INTO THE WILD album actually.
It lists 2 songs w/ the correct titles, the rest are all titles from RIOT ACT and then just random track listings (Yellow Ledbetter is one that comes to mind)

    Very strange!
  • its because the database does not have the album info yet. i dont know if other media players have this problem or not, but my guess is that its common. it will usually be updated within the week of release, at least has been my experience.
  • Same thing with Zune software. Typical Microsoft crap.

About WMP... If you've got a couple of minutes go to the link above and click on the "Run WinRG Flash Demo" button. It's a flash demo that runs in your web browser that is interactive. I think my favorite part is the Windows Media Player link on the desktop... Or the "order food from home" part.

I bought my copy from the 10c and I'm having the same problem with WMP showing the Avocado track listing.
