Least favorite track on Backspacer so far?

Speed of Sound has the worst lyrics on the album.
"It's hard to remember anything moving at the Speed of Sound". I knew the lyrics would be contrived based on the album title when I read them 2 months ago. I always wondered how Ed could sign on to the closing lyrics of Inside Job now (Let me run into the rain..)..... because he thinks they were good!
But all in all I am relieved by Backspacer, it's really only SOS and the Fixer that are mediocre or boring. The ballads are not my favorite, but Unthought,GSMF,Got Some,Johnny Guitar and the rest are really good songs that I look forward to seeing live.0 -
least fav is prolly The Fixer.0

Mostly because of track listing though - the album should have went 1. Got Some 2. Supersonic 3. The Fixer 4. Gonna See My Friend 5. Just Breathe 6. Amongst The Waves 7. Unthought Known 8. Johnny Guitar 9. Speed Of Sound 10. Force of Nature 11. The End. If you have an ipod, listen to it in that order. The album seems to jump out a little more, and doesn't kill Supersonic like so many people do - that song kicks balls.
I am going to give this order a shot while I listen on my way to work tonight, looks like I could agree to this.
It does look good actually, think I'll try it too!!
I'm tellin ya. Comes out with a lot more force, and doesn't mess with the momentum of going up and then down, then middle, then down again. Good stuff. HEY ,BRENDAN! TAKE NOTE!0 -

I'm sure I'll catch some heat for this and I can't pinpoint it but for some reason JG hits a White Stripes chord with me. I've only listened to the song twice (streaming on myspace) but it was there both times. Am I way off with this?
I don't know - as it's been referenced. I whole-heartedly agree with the Costello comparison.0 -
Either "Speed of Sound" or "Supersonic".0

wow.
i gotta go with speed of sound or force of nature.
I LOVE gonna see my friend.
You say "wow" to that as if not liking Unthought Known makes me weird or something. It's a boring Love Boat Captain rewrite.Post edited by Ledbetterman10 on2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. Speed of Sound-- Had they done something more interesting with the drums, I wouldn't be picking this as my least favorite.
The rest of the album Matt Cameron absolutely kicks ass.0 -
"Unthought Known" is easily one of the best songs on the album.0

I have a feeling this will be a live staple that will get you when you see it at a show. It does have a slight LBC tinge to it, but only the best of that mixed with some Light Years with a more urgent pace.0 -

Its not because its not "Pearl Jam" enough or anything. I just really don't think its that great of a song, I understand what Ed was trying to do with the vocals but I just don't think it works very well. The rest of Backspacer is fucking amazing.
You meant BEST SONG RIGHT? Or else you fail.. Johnny Guitar is the BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM!!!
I HIDE MY DISAPOINTMENT CUZ FOR YEARS I HAVE BEEN HOPING, THAT WHEN SHE CAME, SHE'D BE COMING...
JUST FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

It left such an impression that you don't know the name?0 -
Unthought Known. I think the lyrics and pianos are cheesy and musically, it's just kind of boring. Speed of Sound is coming in second right now.
To respond to the OP, the first couple times I heard Johnny, I was like "wtf, this is terrible." But it has grown on me substantially...0 -
I refuse to like something just because they are "stepping out on a limb" or trying something new. Its cool that they are still taking chances and trying new stuff but this one was a dud. Johnny Guitar is a B-side at best."Well, I think this band is incapable of sucking."
-my dad after hearing Not for You for the first time on SNL .0 -
Speed of SoundLife has nothing to do with killing time.
So why be satisfied?0 -
probably The Fixer. i like it, but not as much as the rest of the record.I LOVE MUSIC.
