lays an open ice hit on Kyle Okposo of the Islanders, knocking him out for 6 minutes. there's no reason for that kind of hit during a preseason game, it serves no purpose other than to inflate the asshole ego of Phaneuf. then, like a true scumbag, tries to skate away from challenges to fight from Isles players.

piece of shit.

yeah it's a clean hit. but this is september. it serves no f'n purpose.

and yes, phaneuf was clearly backing away from the advancing Islander player.

    that fucker will get his.

  • Clean hit, but classless to do in a preseason game by an established guy... If it's some rookie trying to make the team, that's one thing, but for an all star to layout a guy like that isn't cool... and I like Phaneuf.

The kid has to keep his head up, but he was shoved forward right before the hit, so he was in a bit of a defenseless position to start with.

I knew he was back, but haven't followed any training camps this year yet... does he have a legitimate shot at making the team?

Wait, so if a player charges you from the bench you're supposed to stop and engage right there??? hahahaha Phaneuf backed away and then engaged when he was ready.. he didn't skate to his bench, or run behind an official, he waited till he was ready.

And I could give a shit about either team... Is it a necessary hit?? no However, hitting and fighting is part of hockey whether it is preseason, regular season or playoffs.

who can ever forget his slide after a goal during a game many years ago. i was still in ninja turtle underwear when it happened.

the hit was a dickish move. this is nothing new for dion. it was a meaningless game and whats more pathetic is dion backs down from a fight by a 5'10 guy. total pussy in my book. nice to see team unity though. i loved how biron tried to get at him too.

the 2 teams play again this saturday and in march at the hempstead turnpike dump

    i hope KO gets healthy

Phaneuf NEVER DROPPED HIS GLOVES. a sure sign that he is backing down. plus, he was actually and literally backing down.

Outstanding bodycheck. That's the way hockey should be played.
Dude had his head down and you're going to get hit if you do that.
The fact that it was a pre-season game is irrelevant, these guys are not going to
go out on the ice thinking "oh, I should take it easy on my opponents" That's ludicrous.

And Phaneuf most certainly did not back down from anyone, he engaged some rookie named Morency
who was standing up for his teammate. Very commendable.

i knew what my eyes were seeing ( # 14 on calgary )
in that brief clip , it was only for a second
    then i realized

hey man all the best for theo
he always had that little train that could attitude,
we got a brief look at him here on broadway ,..
alltho this may have been when he was deeply into his bad stuff,..
and i know he drove most opponents nuts on his good nights

i hope his demons are gone now
and that he lives a good healthy life.

Huh??? Are you talking about Dion Phaneuf, assiatant captain, number 3, who is shown in the OP video in a scrap not 10 seconds after the hit, not dropping his gloves????

I agree with Rygar, very nicely said. I was in Calgary during his heyday. He was an annoying little shit, but very exciting to watch. It was sad to watch him and his career implode. Hopefully he can pull it together and leave the game on a high note.

On that video, it looks like two guys headed to the bench and only Morency came on... not sure how they can say suspend him for leaving the bench....

  • The thing that hurts me most about this is that my team decided to draft Braydon Coburn 2 slots ahead of him... then traded Coburn away for a rental player. Uggggg.
