i can't tell if this is an honest question or you're trying to knock them but they don't really have any "hits" outside of the punk scene. inside that scene, they have entire albums that are huge. doesn't mean shit as far as how great of a band they are.

I am totally serious...I've heard of them and I am sure I've heard some of their songs, but can't think of any.. Are there any Bad Religion songs I would know?? I'm sure there are some.

I have heard 21st digital...but not familiar with the other 2. Thanks for the response. Might check them out one of the 2 shows.

no dude. don't wait until the shows to check them out. you will regret it and the shows won't be nearly as fun without knowing some of the stuff. all of their albums are great (well, besides one in my opinion) but check out "Recipe For Hate" because Eddie sings on that record and it might be a good way for you to get into them.
  • i have never listened to either of these bands....what would you guys say is the best album from each band?
  • I would love to see both/either of those bands open for Pearl Jam. Ben Harper would be cool, but I am actually a semi-fan of BR & Social D. I have a few albums from both, have seen both live, etc. I'm surprised Social D is doing it, just cause it seems like PJ fans are a little preppy/corporate for them (I mean in their eyes, claiming to be DIY punks etc, even though it's not REALLY Social Distortion, just Mike Ness and backing musicians these days, I think?). Bad Religion, I was supposed to get to see open in 95 but we got the Ramones instead on the reschedule. Yeah, good trade out at least. :)

Bruce is not gonna open for Pearl Jam. Maybe he'll show up for a couple of songs, but anyone who had been seriously expecting Bruce and his band to open for Pearl Jam and play a short show... come on. These are 2 great bands compared to the like of Sleater Kinney, Idlewild, Sparta, Supergrass etc... these are real bands with a huge history and a ton of great songs. Show up early and enjoy. Thank me later. :)

Best album by each band: Social Distortion self titled (you will recognize a huge chunk of the songs) and Bad Religion... maybe get All Ages for a good sampling of their "best of" the old stuff (pre-major label). Empire Strikes First is also a GREAT modern album.

  • I am happy that I'll be seeing Social Distortion and Bad Religion as openers in Philly! :D

Also, since I might be going to San Diego now also...I'll be able to see Ben Harper & R7 too!

  • i couldn't be happier about bad religion... how fucking sweet. sorry, some of us have different tastes and don't like benno and the other ding dong you refer to.

i'm still waiting for the day rancid or nofx get to grace us with their presence.

furthermore, i'd have rather seen just "pearl jam"...... period.

p.s. br isn;t something you just all of a sudden think is cool or hip. if you never heard them, heard of them, or bothered with them, just forget it. stay outside and drink beer or hang in the hall and buy a poster.

Tough to say and depends who you ask. They have their classics according to hardcore fans and those would probably be their first two real full length records, Suffer and No Control (when speaking of full length records). These are a bit faster and harder than some of the melodic stuff and oohs-n-ahhs they brought into their later sound.

They have so many great records but I would recommend PJ fans pick up their newest, "New Maps of Hell" and "Recipe for Hate" and get into those before the show because they're both awesome and very accessible.

  • Haven't had the pleasure of seeing BR since 1995! I am SOOO freaking happy with this announcement!

  • Cool! AND we get to see both of them.

  • I was a bit late to the party on Bad Religion. Picked up New Maps of Hell and loved it, then got all their other stuff on the strength of it. They are fucking brilliant. I am also a huge Social Distortion fan, I actually am going to see them in Old Bridge, NJ about three weeks before the shows in Philly. This is just about the best news ever.

Yeah what a let down. Why in the world does everyone else get to see Ben and R7? I mean I know we got spoiled with 4 shows and I am going to all 4 but comon! It says special Guest on the ticket. I was expecting someone extra special. Social Distortion is good and all but Ben and R7 are extra special.

Oh and by the way i have listened to a certain album and it kicks major ass!!!!!!!

  • I'm excited to see Bad Religion, but i really wish they had the nights swapped. I've seen BR before, never saw social d, and I have tickets to both fri & sat shows... if only the alternated so i could see them both...
I know that I was born and I know that Ill die.
The in between is mine. I am mine.

    What a big let down.

I haven't heard much from either BR or SD but i will give them a chance.

    Social D=Pure awesomeness
check out their greatest hits records if you've never heard much by them, you'll catch all the high points except "Angel's Wings," "Sometimes I Do," & "This Time Darlin"
"All I Ever Knew" available now in print and digital formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks.
  • I know I'm late to the discussion but you all should be thrilled and honored to have these as OPENERS. I'm a huge Pearl Jam fan but these bands are also legends in their own rights. I wouldn't have been shocked to see PJ open for these bands out of respect much like NIN did for Janes on their tour. As for other late guests, not sure if he is elsewhere on tour but Bruce and Mike Ness are buddies who on a few occasions have popped on stage at each others performances. Enjoy the shows.
