I had the same type reaction to a completely different situation, the song was actually a version of In My Tree, he never remembers the lyrics so he just started making shit up, and it was if he was talking to me. I posted it with a picture of a palm tree on the picture contest by Lance, if you want to listen to it. It took my breath away, I was crying so hard.

Thanks for that! I will definately check it out.

This post was for people like you and every other poster who has had a positive vibe through listening to the music. It's great to hear you got to the point which some people never do and like you said the music help that come out. Just by being able to write that, it makes you a great father! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks very much for that. BTW, I didn't see this as bashing the other thread, but trying to bring to light why we all love to listen to the band.

    Thanks for being positive.

You know it! Anyone who steps out and talks about what they morally/ethically believe is right (minus those with some engrained religious agenda) deserves applause and hats off!

Love ya ED...and you're public comments! ("rants" is a stupid f'in term)

Sorry... but I hardly think this person is bashing the other by posting this thread.

I think this thread is very interesting and I enjoy reading how Eddie's words have helped others.

Although I find the other thread about him making the world unsafe a little absurd, I can't object to it being posted on this board.

    Absolutely!

Its a good post bringing positive energy to Ed's free speech and the message of peace he discusses on a regular basis!

I'm in the minority when it comes to this subject because i actually got into this band & ED because of his outspokenness!! he wasn't just another rock douche singing about sex, drugs, money etc. he was talking about things that actually matter and i fucking dig that about him very much!!

as time has gone by Ed has showed he is a Patriot and he is concerned about the future of our country.but he doesn't just sit on his ass and let himself become a complacent lump.He writes songs that speak out in protest and spark peoples minds.

He is an asset to this country NOT a detriment!!!

and i'm not dick riding because there are somethings that i do not agree with Ed on, like Obama (no, i hate McCain too!!) but mostly i think we see eye to eye.

so keep on keeping on Ed, don't ever stop speaking out!! & fuck anyone who doesn't like it!!!!!!!!

the lyrics to I AM MINE especially :)
i listen to this almost daily

The selfish, they're all standing in line
Faithing and hoping to buy themselves time
Me, I figure as each breath goes by
    I only own my mind

The North is to South what the clock is to time
There's east and there's west and there's everywhere life
I know I was born and I know that I'll die
    The in between is mine
    I am mine

And the feeling, it gets left behind
All the innocence lost at one time
    Significant, behind the eyes
    There's no need to hide...
    We're safe tonight

The ocean is full 'cause everyone's crying
The full moon is looking for friends at high tide
The sorrow grows bigger when the sorrow's denied
    I only know my mind
    I am mine

And the meaning, it gets left behind
All the innocents lost at one time
    Significant, behind the eyes
    There's no need to hide...
    We're safe tonight

And the feelings that get left behind
All the innocents broken with lies
    Significance, between the lines
    (We may need to hide)

And the meanings that get left behind
All the innocents lost at one time
We're all different behind the eyes
    There's no need to hide

That one and this one for me...

Do you see the way that tree bends?
    Does it inspire?
Leaning out to catch the sun's rays
    A lesson to be applied
Are you getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

You can spend your time alone, re-digesting past regrets, oh
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who can't forgive yourself, oh
Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense

Have you ideas on how this life ends?
Checked your hands and studied the lines
Have you the belief that the road ahead, ascends off into the light?
Seems that needlessly it's getting harder
To find an approach and a way to live
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

You can spend your time alone re-digesting past regrets, oh
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who cannot forgive yourself, oh
Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense

Ok, obviously PJ's music/Ed's words have been very valuable to me through the years and will continue to be. I kind of hate to interupt the thread but I have a thought...

Have his words truly made the world and the USA better places to be? His words have certainly affected many people in many wonderful ways, but I don't know that the world is better for it. Lives are certainly better for it, but in general....I don't know. I guess the positive impact his words have had could have such an affect on some people that they go out and do good things or just figure out a way to live their lives a better way thus causing a ripple effect of positive results.

Pardon me, ignore my comment, but I got to thinking and didn't want to start another thread.

    Carry on
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

That's bashing the other thread... and while many find the other absurd, I also find it absurd to make a directly opposite "Eddie's lyrics have helped the US" thread. Don't get me wrong - they help a lot of individual people, but the spirit of this thread was bashing another thread - two negatives to make a positive, I guess...

Ed is a freedom fighter who gives tools to the people to find and push for their own freedom and to throw a wrench into the spokes of the great monsterous soul destroying earth ravaging machine that we all live in.

My father died when I was 15 years old. Even after my parents divorce, we were as close as close can be. He died suddenly and I was not prepared for it all. I couldn't even cry or get emotional. I completely shut down and went on a wild downward spiral and could never get grips on what happend.

It took years for me to even go to the grave site. I got rid of all pictures and anything that reminded me of him. In 2000 when Binaural came out it had been 18 years since his death. As usual when going through a new PJ album, I first listen to the music vs the lyrics. As I go through each subsequent listen the lyrics will start to hit me. When I got to examine Light Years something amazing happend. After all this time I finally cried! and cried and cried! Finally a song which truly expressed the loss I had and the feelings of change from him not being there. I didn't realize how much I had pent up and it was truly cathartic.

I can only hope to be as good a father as mine was (I have 3 amazing kids) and hope that I aspire to be a person like my father or whoever Eddie was writing about in Light Years.

I've used hammers made out of wood
I have played games with pieces and rules..
I've deciphered tricks at the bar...
But now you're gone,... I haven't figured out why...
I've come up with riddles... and jokes about war...
I've figured out numbers and what they're for...
I've understood feelings.. and I've understood words...
But how could you be taken away?...

And wherever you've gone...and wherever we might go...
It don't seem fair...today just disappeared...
Your light's reflected now,... reflected from afar...
We were but stones,... your light made us stars

    With heavy breath,... awakened regrets...
Back pages and days alone that could have been spent,
Together... but we were... miles apar...t
Every inch between us becomes light years now...
No need to be void,... or save up on life...
You got to spend it all.....

And wherever you've gone... and wherever we might go...
It don't seem fair...you seemed to like it here...
Your light's reflected now,... reflected from afar
We were but stones,... your light made us stars

And wherever you've gone... and wherever we might go...
It don't seem fair...today just disappeared...

Isn't it great that an artist can write something so personal for themselves and affect others so much.

    Love this song

That song along with "Long Road" has really helped me through a very tough time. My Mother Passed away shortly before Christmas and these songs really have touched on many of the same feelings that I've been going through. Eddie Vedder has made my world a better place for the simple fact that he brought these amazing songs and wonderful words into the world.

The wisdom... the talent... the love :)

"Do you see the way that tree bends?
