i definitely don't think a lot of these bands being mentioned ever deserve to get in. weezer, stp, garbage, live, smashing pumpkins, tool, foo fighters....i say none of them get in. i don't even think aic or soundgarden get in. what did soundgarden really have besides one classic album? aic had a pretty short lived career too. i realize they are still making music, but it's not the same. i'd assume all these grunge era bands are just being mentioned because this is a pearl jam board, so a lot of people here probably grew up listening to them.

can't believe it took a few responses for someone to mention radiohead.

also, no one has mentioned wilco. while probably not a first ballot hall of fame band, based on the fact that they aren't massively popular, their body of work will eventually get them in. i think over time they will finally get the respect they deserve. that stretch of albums from being there - a ghost is born is one of the great runs by any band ever.

i also have to mention that i don't even think any of these bands we're talking about will be first ballot hall of famers besides nirvana. maybe not even pearl jam. there are too many older artists that are already eligible that haven't gotten in yet.

sonic youth needs to be inducted.

Wilco before Soundgarden, AIC, or Tool? You're fuckin high.

    Any mention of Phish, yet?

What older artists that deserve to get in are left? There can't be many with name as big as PJ, Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, Tool. Also, the longer it goes for those older artists, the less their chances, so the chances for newer bands to get in will grow.

They probably need to have a year where they go hogwild with a ton of inductees, to catch up.
Jam bands like Phish are going to get the same snub as Prog rock bands.....as much as I love AIC, I see them getting the snub...face it, if Rolling Stone magazine didn't like 'em....they ain't getting in.

I totally forgot about Wilco. They're only my second favorite band. Very worthy IMO but possibly not mainstream enough.

Talking about Prog Rock, I'll admit I'm not very familiar with most of those type bands, and I wouldn't consider Phish Hard Rock material because of that (okay they're a jam band, but same concept), but I cannot fathom why Rush hasn't gotten in yet. It seems even Rolling Stone has begrudgingly given them due respect in recent years.

Prog Rock (in a few folks' eyes)=noodling...and jam bands are also basically "noodling"...some people refer to Rush as "prog rock"...I guess that's the Hall's (Jann Wenner's) knock against them....or maybe they are regarded as an "arena rock" act...like Styx, Journey, Kansas...consider how many albums those bands moved..think about Genesis...from Prog rockers to pop rockers...not in the hall....Peter Gabriel...former member of Genesis....not in the Hall despite all that he has done musically and socially...who has done more for World Music than Peter...probably not in the hall because you can't separate him from his Prog Rock roots.
