    Alice in Chains
    Soundgarden
    Weezer

TOOL is prolly the most deserved outside of PJ, imo.

Then, neither will QOTSA. Weezer has a much better chance. People actually know who they are. Outside of serious music fans(.0000000001% of the world population) nobody realizes QOTSA has a song beside No One Knows.

Ummm....really?? No one has mentioned this yet?? Bleach came out in 1989.

Yes, yes, they are recognized as a 90's band, but still.
  • first ballot...
    —soundgarden/GNR (class of '87)
    —nirvana/NIN (class of '89)
—alice in chains/black crowes (class of '90)
—PJ/smashing pumpkins/Green Day (class of '91) ... Live "maybe" gets in on second ballot.
—Tool/RATM (class of '92) Cranberries and STP are "maybes" for '92.

I think 1995 should be the last class. Foo Fighters and Garbage. After that, the HoF needs to close its doors.

outside of the blue album, I'm not sure weezer deserves to get in. On the strength of their debut, I think they might get in eventually.

I don't think Muse, the White Stripes, or QOTSA will ever be in the HOF and sorry but I don't think they deserve it either. I'm a huge QOTSA fan but did they ever really reach the same sature as the earlier 90s bands???? When I think HOF, I think of bands that were huge and none of them ever reached that level.

I think some bands like that will get in b/c a lack of new well know rock bands since 95. If none of those bands get in, God help us, b/c the rock and roll hall of fame won't be very rock and roll for long.

Personally, I think if things keep going as they seem to be, Muse will certainly be in the rock hall someday. As for the White Stripes...depends on if they record any more. Otherwise I think Jack gets in but for all the different bands, not just 1.

  • STP definitely deserve to make it. By the time they're eligible in 2017 they will have probably had 7 or 8 records (their 6th comes out in January).

Tool won't make the cut.....gonna get lumped in with bands like Rush and Primus...and Jann probably doesn't like them...that said, I actually like Tool.

Cranberries and STP are on the bubble.....Live doesn't make the cut

i definitely don't think a lot of these bands being mentioned ever deserve to get in. weezer, stp, garbage, live, smashing pumpkins, tool, foo fighters....i say none of them get in. i don't even think aic or soundgarden get in. what did soundgarden really have besides one classic album? aic had a pretty short lived career too. i realize they are still making music, but it's not the same. i'd assume all these grunge era bands are just being mentioned because this is a pearl jam board, so a lot of people here probably grew up listening to them.

can't believe it took a few responses for someone to mention radiohead.

also, no one has mentioned wilco. while probably not a first ballot hall of fame band, based on the fact that they aren't massively popular, their body of work will eventually get them in. i think over time they will finally get the respect they deserve. that stretch of albums from being there - a ghost is born is one of the great runs by any band ever.

i also have to mention that i don't even think any of these bands we're talking about will be first ballot hall of famers besides nirvana. maybe not even pearl jam. there are too many older artists that are already eligible that haven't gotten in yet.

sonic youth needs to be inducted.
  • Hate to say it, but I garauntee that Nickleback and Staind will be in there.

The Beastie Boys are WELL deserving of being in the Hall!!

Unfortunately Bad Brains will never make it in, I accept this.

Wilco before Soundgarden, AIC, or Tool? You're fuckin high.

    Any mention of Phish, yet?

What older artists that deserve to get in are left? There can't be many with name as big as PJ, Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, Tool. Also, the longer it goes for those older artists, the less their chances, so the chances for newer bands to get in will grow.

They probably need to have a year where they go hogwild with a ton of inductees, to catch up.

    how did you know?!!

okay, well i think you could argue this either way. maybe i'm being biased because i never really got into soundgarden or aic, but am i off base by saying that soundgarden had one big album with superunknown? and for aic, what did they do? i guess aside from pearl jam and nirvana, i never really got into the grunge movement. i just feel like grunge lasted for such a short period of time, and when the genre died, these albums became dated. now if they spawned some musical movement which is still influencing what we are hearing today in a good way (puddle of mudd doesn't count) then i'd say maybe you have a point. i think what sets pearl jam apart is that they are more of a classic rock band, nirvana i would say was more of a punk/garage rock band, both got lumped in with all the seattle bands in the grunge movement. makes sense for pearl jam since mother love bone was certainly a grunge band, and ten even had a grunge sound to it, but i wouldn't call pearl jam grunge.....................i can't comment much on tool, never really been a fan, but i know they are pretty well respected and have had a good career. maybe they'll get in.

as for wilco, i think over time wilco will go down as one of the greats. they make timeless music, and they're consistency is hard to match. they've been pumping out classics every 2-3 years since 1994. not to mention they've been a top live band throughout their career. i'm not saying wilco is first ballot. they certainly won't be, they aren't popular enough, but it would illegitimize the hall in my opinion if they never got in.

i agree with phish, they definitely deserve a spot....for their touring alone.

My take on the Rock and Roll Fame is this: too many unqualified bands get in. I'll go back to my argument that why in the hell would Percy Sledge get in for one good song? Really, he sang "When A Man Loves a Woman" and then what else? That's one example but I already think they've let in way too many bands. They spent their load in the first five years or so. As it stands, there are few bands from the 90's that are worthy of the status. And I'm a huge fan of 90's rock music. But most of the bands I love didn't have a huge impact for more than an album or two at the most. But for sure, bands that should get in from the 90's would be:

    Nirvana
    Soundgarden
    PJ
    Dave Matthews Band
    Snoop Dogg
    Radiohead
    NIN
    Green Day
    Boz II Men
    Counting Crows
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Rage Against the Machine
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Weezer
    Stone Temple Pilots
    Wutang Clan
    Black Crowes

    almost forgot Beck!

Jeff Buckley might get in but he didn't really have enough material in my opinion. But I loved his work. Fugees too.
