I don't understand how on a pre-sale of posters which probably aren't produced yet that they can sell out. It's like selling out of CDs. Nowadays they're looking to make money any way they can, getting money from Verizon, upping ticket prices... why not make money by creating poster quantities which fit the demand?

Weird - I kinda got the sense that the run was to be determined on the volume of the preorder. Would have been nice to see a note in the email/announcement saying "*AMOUNTS ARE LIMITED"
  • Another unorganized sale  This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

The preorder does say "a limited quantity of posters will be sold for each show". I missed it when reading the email on my phone last night too... maybe because it was all caps and the rest of the email wasn't.

I just don't get it. I own an art gallery, and a limited edition is only limited once an artist pencils in the numbers (or unless during the presale the quantity is disclosed in advance, which this was not disclosed in advance, so upping a quantity should be fine). No reason to limit the pre-sale. They're probably making $10 or $15 profit per print. That's 2x to 3x the profit of selling one of their CD's thru Target. C'mon... take the money and run! We're obviously buying!

  • i would imagine that its most likely the artist who would want to limit the print run, not the band.

The band I doubt cares about an aftermarket value to the posters, however that can mean a lot to the artist.

A higher aftermarket value of your prints increases your stature as an artist (and vice versa). If Ames made 20,000 posters per show, sure everyone would get one, but I doubt they'd ever be worth more than the original sale price.

  • Hopefully, they will have tons at the show.

Is the value of Posters Limited anymore? In the past it looks like there are only a hundred or so. Now, they have a stack and stacks of them.

This is my belief too... but I'm sure the band has pull about this type of thing, if they wanted to. I think that would also explain the "ebay" sticker someone had on one of their poster-tubes when they bought a poster thru TC last year. It suggests they have sold directly to the secondary market (I'm not sure if the fan had got the poster from TC or the artist, but I thought it was TC).

But still, lets say the artist (for a special event like this) makes a kick-ass poster, and sells realistically 5,000 of them. And lets say he's getting half of the $30 price. That makes the artist's cut about $75,000 for this one poster. I'd have to believe that that kind of payoff would well exceed the profit made by printing only 1,000 of them, and having a stash of 200 to sell at after-market value.

What? The sale is fine. The most popular show of the bunch sold out quick (which is NO surprise). The other shows are still for sale. When I saw the link last night, my first thought was that the 10/31 posters may be sold out already.

I agree that the artist would make more money by printing more upfront, but there must be some sort of draw for them to be a "limited quantity artist".

We all know there would be people calling them sellouts if they sold 10,000 prints at a show ever, and that they were

I'm okay with the limited #'s

my complaint is that i went for the poster as soon as they went up but it said that it was a restricted item blah blah blah. so i couldnt buy one even though i have tickets in my order history.

    that kinda sucks.

And that's what happened for Chicago 1 which is why I'm holding out. That and there were STACKS of posters are both Chicago shows - I haven't heard of a single show this year where posters were hard to come by.

How was this an unorganized sale?

it says clearly as norm posted earlier LIMTED QUANTITIES would be available for each show, so because people can’t not read it means the 10C is running an unorganized sale? :?

i would give more value to it being unorganized because of the extreme delay in announcing the presale after the first one, the fact that they went on sale immediately, and the fact that it was announced in the middle of the night.

middle of the night?? santos post was at 4:22pm seattle time
  • I missed out on the 31st poster as well but I'm not that upset about it. I'll go to the show early and buy one, going early anyway to help out at the Wishlist Foundation tent. I just pray they are doing the wristband thing again, that was great.

What Delay? If you saw the first presale, it was 8 days before the Calgary show. This one was 12 days before Seattle. In the first presale, they went on sale right away. A lot of them sold out by the end, but as of right now, it is just ACL and Halloween sold out.

the 10C sent the email at 7:35pm EST and I think Santos may have posted a little earlier than that.. how is that the middle of the night? :?

  • I was very lucky to have been reading my emails when the message came through so I immediately signed on and bought Philly 4 thinking it would be the highest demand and fortunately got one. Hopefully, those who didn't can get one at the show.

the 10c email was sent at 7:35pm EST correct, but its a mass email so not everyone gets it at that exact time, thats just when the send button was clicked to start sending the email out. I usually get 10c emails about 8-24 hours after they are originally sent out. I last checked my email around 11pm last night and didn't have it as of then, but it was there when i checked it this morning, so it came somewhere between 11pm and 7am for me. So for me, I was alerted to this presale 'in the middle of the night'

Yeah I got mine overnight too... I knew the presale was going on from the board, but to be fair I didnt get an email under after midnight.

delay as in, the gap between the first presale and this one. It shouldn't matter to do it x days before the first show included in the presale. I preordered the new album more than 8-12 days before it came out, so thats not an issue. They could have announced the poster presale for all the shows included right away, instead of staggering them.

I got my email around 8pm last night, maybe plenty of time to order a halloween poster but I want to see it before I by it, I like others will go to the show early, I have to anyway to pick up my tickets, and buy one if I like it, if not I didn't waste 37.50 for something I wouldn't ever hang on my wall.
  • I don’t have a problem with the “limited quantities” and getting shut out, but I do find it slightly irritating that there isn’t any advance notice of the sale. The 10c email came through at 9pm last night - long after they'd already been on sale, evidently. So, by the time I saw the email this morning, 10/31 was already gone.
