PJ playing ITW songs - thoughts?

As always, apolo's if this has been discussed already, searched but found nothing.
Anyways....I was thinking about how I would love it if PJ opened a concert with 'Setting Forth' and was generally musing on how the other ITW songs would sit in a PJ setlist - I think that some of them would work really well, i.e. 'Setting Forth', 'Hard Sun' (get Stone/Jeff/Matt on harmony vox) and 'Far Behind'.
How would any of you feel if they did this - should they leave 'side' projects alone? I've often thought before that some of the other guy's side projects songs would sound great - i.e. 'November Hotel', 'Anchors', 'Resonate', etc...
Not least of all because it's far less likely we'll hear them live otherwise!

  • Now that I think about it I think I'd rather just enjoy them as studio versions. I'm not sure that they could be preformed properly as live songs. Eddie conceived and recorded them all in a few weeks, I'd rather listen to them as they are, very organic, rather than practiced and memorized songs as we do with the true PJ songs.

I think you'll just see Ed doing some of them as "preset" songs.
    This weekend we rock Portland

I think that we'll hear GUARANTEED or RISE as a pre-set or encore opener. We won't hear the others. They would have to be arranged to fit the band, and the band would have to learn to play them. I don't see that happening.

Guaranteed, Rise, Long Nights, Society as preset/encore openers.

But I bet Hard Sun will be played at some point (it's a cover after all anyway).

Exactly......this will be the only way we'll be able to hear some these songs....an ed solo tour seems unlikely.....

I really hope PJ plays them... they damn well better!
  • Yes, they're going to start playing songs from Into the Wild, as well as from Brad, Mad Season, Three Fish, Wellwater Conspiracy, The Rockfords, and Bayleaf. ;)

That was my first thought when hearing it. The whole band could really kick that songs ass!

  • I would love for them to play the whole thing, start to finish aucusticly, similar to what they did in Boston and The Gorge 05.

Also somewher on here I got turned out to that web site that has all their b sides and other great stuff. I am especially loving the Signature Live thing. Does anybody know when and where that was. I am guessing Hawaii as they do Hawaii 78 but also play a bunch of other covers I have never heard them play and it seems like it may all be from one show but I cant find it anywhere....anybody know? It is fantastic I am listening to it right now and they are going into So You Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star......Fucking beautiful.

Not that I woudl complain, but they are Vedder songs, not PJ, and Im not sure these songs would translate well at a typical PJ show-(except far behind)

but an EV solo show would be nice, or if PJ did an acoustic set-then definitely YES
  • Ed will probablt throw one of these in every once in awhile as a solo. thats about it.

i think itw should be ed only....if played live only as presets.....however, if they could figure out a way to tag 'far behind' into rvm..... :)

only ever seen 3 Ed preset (out of 30, and 1 was the vic so not exactly a preset in the usual sense ..GA doesn't 'need' presets, you're stuck with the opening bands anyway if you want a good spot..) and Dead Man was only in 1..
only other time was in the main set (Prague 06)

No, it was written by Ed, however it was recorded during the No Code sessions with Jeff and Jack.

Ive never made the preset, and skip most opening bands actually
anyway, I love ITW, but Id rather hear PJ songs at a PJ concert (with the exception of a few selected covers), unless its an acoustic set.
Maybe one as an encore opener.

That being said, Id love an EV solo show-kinda like what tweedy does
