Any fans?
I've never paid attention to them, at the moment I am listening to songs from Pretty Hate Machine.
Different, never really heard the Industrial sound.
Lyrics are great but just don't like the volume going soft and loud on me lol

this is the only band that has ever threatened PJ at the top of my list, and I didnt even become a real fan until 2005.

what PJ did in the mid-90's to keep the focus on the music, Trent has continued to do until today. he is truly a pioneer. I just saw them at the 2 Chicago shows and then Echoplex, and I hope this "Wave Goodbye" thing is just a phase. hopefully he will be home all winter and will realize that he needs music, because music surely needs him.

The Fragile is very beautiful indeed. I love all NIN, but The Downward Spiral is a force of nature, such a cathartic album! And it holds together great after all this time.

From the more recent stuff Year Zero is an amazing, strong and strange concept album.

  • saw one of their final shows at terminal 5 last month. wish everyone could still continue to see them; they truly are an amazing band.

my favorite album has got to be with teeth; it's what got me into them, so i owe it to that one.

    favorite albums in order:

    with teeth
    the fragile
    downward spiral
    year zero
    pretty hate machine
    the slip
    ghosts I-IV

and those are in order, but doesn't mean the lower ones are bad. all nin is amazing.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.
  • mavi couldn't have said it better. "Downward Spiral is a force of nature."

All NIN albums are great in their own way.
  • The Downward Spiral is one of the best albums ever created.

Any fans?!!! Heh I guess you didn't do a search for NIN threads. You must be aware a large portion of the NIN community is somwaht in mourning today. (Or still asleep because we were following last night's last show setlist on twitter and making NIN a trending topic for a few minutes on twitter) NIN has become tied with PJ for my favorite band

Regarding soft/loud, you get a lot of that in NIN. Trent is good with the juxtaposition of seemingly disparate sounds that with what he does, fit so well together.

I can't rank albums - I love each of them in their own way. But when I want straight out melt you face, I put on Broken, no doubt about it.

NIN's last concert was Sept. 10 and it kills me that I was in Texas and not there!
I'm a huge fan everything TR has released. I bought -with teeth- and was like this is NIN, I thought they were like Manson or something LOL little did I know. A couple months later I saw NIN play in Dallas and I was blown away, I started to get so interested in TR's work after I bought The Downward Spiral.
I can't even say which is my favorite album cause they all had some kind of impact on me.

  • Another thing worth mentioning about TR and NIN is that all of the albums are worth owning...full length, remixes, EPs, etc. Don't try to dive into all of them at once or you'll be overwhelmed. It's nice though after you've burned up your CD player/IPOD with the full length albums that you still have lots of music to explore in the non-full length albums.

i am still trying to wrap my head around the show on thursday night. last show...and i was on the rail. un-fucking-believable.

over 3 hours and i think 38 songs. i have never heard a crowd singing as loud as the Wiltern. all the surprise guests--- dave navarro on a rocking Piggy... DEP and complete CHAOS during Wish... Mike Garson on that piano... Me, I'm No with Atticus... Gary Numan--- just added to Robin, Justin, and Ilan playing like there was no tomorrow...because there's not.

and Trent. he was still sick...but he left 1000% on the stage. i know they shot video of the show, and i hope it gets released. but nothing will ever capture the feeling of that theater. you could cut the tension with a knife before the show. the sound was insane. you could feel the bass blowing past you like a warm breeze. i was afraid to close my eyes for a second because i didnt want to miss anything.

every song...took me back to all the times i had seen it live and all the memories associated with the song. i just took it all in and dreaded the end.

i was able to hold it together...right up until Trent started crying halfway through Hurt. then the tears started flowing...of course that led into the final song..In This Twilight...and i lost it...SOBBING...when each musician was spotlighted right before exiting the stage, justin was crying, and even robin looked devastated.

trent was alone in the middle of the stage. a single light shining on him from above. then the music and the light faded. and he disappeared into the shadows. and that was it.

NIN stole my heart from PJ about 4 years ago. this new album better be damn good.

Only became a fan very recently.

Had Pretty Hate Machine & Downward Spiral from when they came out, but never really gave them a chance and didn't quite 'get' them.

But I got tickets for the NINJA tour last year & was mainly going for Jane's Addiction. But I thought I'd make an effort to try & appreciate Nine Inch Nails at last!
Downloaded The Slip off the website & bought With Teeth. I wasn't disappointed! Still enjoying With Teeth, some great tracks on there. But it also got me to revisit Pretty Hate Machine & Downward Spiral & realise how incredible they are.
Downward Spiral definitely one of my favourite albums now, and The Fragile is working it's way up the list too!

Still not got my head around Year Zero yet, but it took me 15 years to appreciate the first two albums, so there's still hope!!!

Pretty hate machine is a great album, and so are all the ones they have put out (in my book)

I also saw Trent Reznor doing NIN songs acoustic in Bridge school and it was fantastic. Really beautiful arrangements that had my jaw dropping.

I don't care too much for NIN. I guess I've never been able to understand the popular obsession, but to each their own.

Having said that, I do think that Pretty Hate Machine is a fantastic album, and if I do listen to anything out of my girlfriend's NIN collection, it's that.

I know you're just poking fun, but you should quit doing that, it's hardly Nickelback we're discussing here! NIN are a highly respected band with an enduring back catalogue, and Trent Reznor has done more to push the boundaries both musically, and with regards to the record industry, than most bands will ever do. Show some respect!
