2000 compared to now

i have to say that as much as i love pj i do love their sound better through out the 2000 bootlegs and a bit of the 03 tour ... i dunno, it just sounds less rushed and more meainful .... after listening to the nurnberg bootleg - especially ledbetter it just sounds better, cleaner, (less intoxicated). to me the later years and their current tours do sound good dont get me wrong but it all sounds too quick for me now - like their trying to rush through a bunch of songs ... it works for some songs but on the whole i def like the feel better back 9 yr ago. i listen to ledbetter now and i guess it sounds more fun than anything... like a drunk eddie throwing it around as a singalong ... but the song (and many more) are more than that... they have meaning and a bit of hurt and a bit of pure in them - sometimes i hear it now and sometimes i dont ...

it doesnt take long to watch but this is what im talking about - raw feeling - or a non drunk eddie - and to me this is as good as it gets

long live the 2000 boots!

i do love their gigs now ... but there is something about the sound back in 2000 that just sounds too pure... i wonder how much the bottles of wine on stage take that away - then again who am i to judge ... eddie deserves a drop i guess

Pearl Jam played very tight in 2000, and they could still belt out oldies like once, state of love and trust & whipping with some fury.

    Eddie looked alright too ;)

  • some people around here act like Ed is always drunk! sometimes that's not even wine in that bottle...did you know that? sometimes there is water or gatorade in there...and sometimes he has a good buzz..like 3/4 of the audience..but that doesn't take away from his soulfulness when singing!! i know what you are saying about the fast pace..and there are def some songs that need to be played in a slower/mellower fashion...but to attribute this to Ed's wine drinking is just ridiculous IMO.

and of course 2000 was great...it was the Binaural tour!!

agree 100%. i've always said the 2000 tour was my favorite and probably eddie's best. the man was ON every night.

amazing shows, especially the european leg. some real gems in that batch.

The band themselves sounded amazing. They were definitely on fire. I personally think the sound quality of the boots was quite bad however. It was so muddy that it masked how well they were playing. The pure sound quality of the boots has improved over the years. I personally think the band has also, but they might never be as on-key as they were in 2000.

Thank goodness, really wondered how he managed to carry on standing, I would have been lying in a corner with sick in my hair. :)

Why a wine bottle though? Why not a little sports bottle, he could get one with a strap and just wear it. Ooops sorry I forget I'm the uncool one.

I think usually after he polishes off the wine, he finishes the show on Gatordade or something. To stay hydrated.

2009 Pearl Jam is just wow.

easily their finest tour for me since 1996.

Some will say i'm wrong but i stand firm on that.

    They blew me away.
  • i loved stone's guitar tone in 2000. i liked eddie's a lot better too, much rougher.

i also liked stone playing crazy mary and black on an electric. i liked him using an acoustic pedal rather than busting out an acoustic on songs like daughter
i have a paper here that entitles me to fast track status
