Can we honestly separate their albums in 3 perfect sets of 3 (in terms of phases of the band's history)?
Or is it like this: Ten-Vs./Vitalogy-Binaural/(post 9/11) Riot Act-Backspacer. How would you arrange their albums, including Lost Dogs?
11/6/95, 11/18/97, 7/13/98, 7/14/98, 10/24/00, 10/25/00, 10/28/00, 6/2/03, 6/3/03, 6/5/03, 7/6/06, 7/7/06, 7/9/06, 7/10/06, 7/13/06, 7/15/06, 7/16/06, 7/18/06, 10/21/06, 4/10/08, 4/13/08, 9/30/09, 10/1/09, 10/6/09, 10/7/09, 10/9/09

    Ten, to me stands alone

I would group Vs/Vitalogy together as those are angry
    No Code/Yield
    Binaural/Riot Act/Lost Dogs
Avacado also stands alone based on what I've heard from Backspacer

my grouping would be similar to above, except ten/vs/vitalogy sit together because they all came out before i was a fan. i was still listening to mariah carey. those 3 albums are part of the "what the fuck was i DOING??" years.
  • Ten, Vs, Vitalogy - Biggest band in the world
No Code, Yield, Binaural, Riot Act - Taking a step back but making great music on their own terms.
Pearl Jam, Backspacer - A step back towards mainstream with various sponsorships and what not...but still making good tunes.

Stage Two - "My Waffle Years" what the Fuck Was I Thinking not a big fan = No Code thru Lost Dogs

Stage Three - Prodigal Son Returns For Good = Avocado and beyond. (At this point I bought every PJ album and was like a little kid at Christmas!!)

No code and yield are a little too different to group together for me
  • Ten - entering the game, stands alone
Vs./Vitalogy - good, solid, angry albums, at their peek
No Code - band purposely pulls back and goes of the grid, non-ticketmaster tour, album sales drop
Yield - a "re-entry", touring again, playing nice with the media again
    Binaural - catch their breath
Riot Act - album with purpose and anger, good solid tour
Avacado - don't have a feeling on this one
Backspacer - time will tell, but another "re-entry", doing new marketing, interesting tour so far, full of surprises
    "Mark it 20, Dude."
