Where were YOU when you bought the AVOCADO?

It's officially May 2nd here...you know what that means...

Avocado was released 2 years ago today! Sure is hard to believe it's already 2 years old.

Where were you when you bought the album and what were you doing that day? Did you order it from 10club?

Me personally, I made the 10-15 minute drive down the expressway to a local Best Buy to buy it. I had already heard about half the record from when it leaked. Remember taking it home and throwing it on the stereo, checking out the liner notes.

I'll have to spin it a few times today.

I did the same, except I didn't listen to the leak other than what was made available on AOL sessions and such and at listening parties at the record store.

I did hear it a few days earlier as my buddy ordered the 10c version that came a few days early.

I waited in line for 30 hrs at the defunct Union Square(NYC) Tower Records to buy the album which came with a free Irving Plaza ticket for the first 400 people.

I went to the midnight sale at Tower Records (R.I.P.) just like I had from Vs. on up.

When I got home I put it on my cd player in my room (on repeat) and read the liner notes.

Like most everybody else I had already heard the whole album by then (AOL music)...but it was like hearing for the first time.

I went to sleep around 4am...but I let the album just soak into my brain all night long.

    Wow 2 years.

i had heard the record once and only once from the leaks. my 10c copy came a few days early. i rocked the avacodo for days, then went and bought the store version. i listened to it for about 2 months straight. and its now the most spun record in the PJ catalog, in my house.

i remember i bought it on the way to work and was late getting there that morning. while driving down aurora, i heard "marker in the sand" for the first time, and that was a special moment...

i pretty much spent the rest of the day with a shit eating grin on my face. then i forced it on my friends later that afternoon.

    good day :)

I caved and listened to the leaked songs.

The funny thing is, my copy of the leaked songs had a fuck-up in Severed Hand after the line "with the power to maintain" and when I listened to the album version, it didn't have the fuck-up. I thought the fuck-up was cool since the song is about psychotropic drugs.

I was at work that day. I worked at a kiosk in the mall. I opened up the kiosk at 9:50 and was at the record store waiting when they opened the doors. I immediately went and got my headphones that I brought for the occasion and went outside for a "smoke break" and listened to the whole album. I know it isn't good business ethics but it's Pearl Jam!

speaking of pearl jam and business ethics, i was behind the register one day and the store's cd that we get delivered new each month had the ed version of "you've got to hide your love away" from the i am sam album and i stopped what i was doing to dance in the middle of the store ;)

I went out and bought it after school that day (my junior year in high school). Went over to Best Buy and it was right in front with a few other newly released cd's and I picked it up and bought it.

I got home, put it in the stereo and listened to it while I did homework :D

i was the first person in the UK to buy it.

went into a local shop about 5 days before it came out... and he had it displayed.. i thought it was a promo thing.. asked him .. he said no it was the new album!!

    i said "gimme it"

went back to work.. took pics of the artwork as no-one believed that i had it.

then i listened to it about 4 times that afternoon at work... i thought the artwork was shit though... it was kinda modern art... ie. shit ;)

i wonder if that thread still exists... i was uber-excited to have been one of the first in the world to actually BUY it.. not download or promos.. the actual thing.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Waited outside Tower records in NYC to get my Avocado, it came w/a free ticket to the Irving Plaza show. Tasty indeed.
    But I had already pre-ordered from 10C so now I've got 2.
Actually 3, since I won a signed vinyl copy from the Deep 2 contest.

I bought the limited edition copy from 10 Club that arrived on May 2nd. On April 29th I found it for sale at an indie record store. That was my first copy. I opened it and listened to it in the car with my kids. A lot of the songs still take me back to that day.

I think it's one of the best albums they've ever released. See you in June.
