Prepare for the bandwagoners...

After Backspacer hits stores and gets digested for a few weeks, you're going to see a lot of people jumping on the wagon. Not that that would be a bad thing, but these are the same fairweather fans that were turned off from Pearl Jam when No Code went in another direction. I've, along with many of people here, have stuck by Pearl Jam's side through thick and thin. I just don't understand the "cool" people who didn't think it was "cool" to like Pearl Jam anymore (post Vitalogy), but then will all of a sudden "like" Pearl Jam again. I guess people have the right to do whatever they want in regards to musical taste. Am I unreasonable for thinking this way?

it was a bit like that in the uk, but with the press as well, the first 2 albums they couldn't get enough of them.
but once they started not doing interviews or anything, it was like the band never exsisted. and they same with some fans a lot of people liked the ten album because of the grunge sound, but as soon as that changed on the next few albums, a lot of fans didn't care anymore.. why? i like you have stuck with them from pretty much day 1(sometime in 1991), not only through loyalty, but because they're a great bunch of guy, with great fucking songs. end of!
and for me, i say vitoligy, no code and yield, are probably my fav. 3
Exactly. To add to that, they haven't had a record label contributing payola to Clear Channel to shove every single down people's throats every hour on the hour all across the country as well (ie Nickelback, Hinder).
It's unfortunate it isn't about the art, it's all about the money.
I would love to welcome the bandwagoners though. It is refreshing to talk to someone who recognizes PJ actually has put out something since "that jeremy song."
I'll fax over my PJ history and then if you could get back to me and let me know if I'm allowed to like the new album that would be sweet.

Agreed. If the OP is such a hardcore fan being a member here since 2003 then he/she should remember that this gets brought up before the release of every album.
I don't really like this way of thinking. It's like you are protecting your turf. I been here all along so I feel threatened by new fans coming along who havn't "paid their dues" like I have. The band wants as many people as possible to be exposed to their music and their goal is to create a hit ablum that will attract new fans. It makes no sense to root against their goal. Or to be bitter because some people didn't stick around when the band started making abums they didn't like.
I'd be pretty happy if the general public was excited about Pearl Jam again. The band can certainly handle it at this point in their career and I think they know that too.
But again... this has been brought up every album, its like a nerosis.. Everyone wants them to get a lot of recognition and be a sucess but they attach a negative to that like "fair weather fans" so when it doesn't happen they have something to be happy about... But prob not.... the same people will start a thread a few months from now wondering why the album sales aren't higher.

They have a right to be a fan at their leisure -- I just ignore most of it. Not my style.
2. as diehard fans, we should welcome anybody who is just discovering PJ. the more new fans, the higher demand for tours, the more dates the band can sell out, and therefore more show choices for us. if the fan base dwindles, we'll get very limited opportunities to see them as the years go on. there'll always be a nice core, but let's root for the base to grow.
i heard push me pull me live on that tour. it was awesome. 9/19/98 @ constitution hall. my favorite PJ show of all time.
i wasnt born when led zep were in there prime, and releasing music,
on the same hand does that mean i dont know enough about the band to like there music???
very well said

They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all

Who knows though?
People have been posting things like this before every new PJ album. It may be the best album in the world, but that doesn't mean that everyone's going to start liking them again.
You beat me to it! I remember those same threads
I jumped on during the Binaural bandwagon!
