Air travel w/ posters

Going to San Diego, but didn't get 10c tickets. Since I won't be eligible for the pre-sale, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if I'll have any problems taking a tube on the plane with me or if I should just UPS it back to my house? Sorry, I'm too lazy to figure it out myself. Just figured somebody here has some up-to-date knowledge on the subject. Would hate to get to the airport only to find out that it's against homeland security to carry a cardboard tube on a jet.

Last year flying back from Boston they didn't give me any grief about my poster tube at the airport. I think they might have taken a peek inside but thats all.

    Here's what I do...
Mail it home in a tube from the post office.
That way... no worries about it getting crushed on the airliner.

When I went to Chicago this year, I came back with a tube, they didn't even ask what was in it. I just shoved it in my backpack, some of it was sticking out but they didn't care.

on the basis they scan everything a tube is no different.

we cut the tube down to size in berlin so it fit in luggage and that made things much easier - popped it in suitcase

I've brought a tube before. Of course they did make me remove the landmine first

  • I've never experienced any problems taking a tube on a plane.
  • Tubes are fine on a plane...I usually take a little bit bigger suitcase than needed and just pack all my new loot...tube included. :)
  • as already mentioned...pack the tube in your suitcase....no worries!
i hate having to carry a lot of stuff on a plane, especially a bunch of different stuff....so i far rather fit it in my suitcase. it's a poster tube, it will fit and it will be well-protected, so just pack it!
    Stay with me...

  • As expected, much good advice from my fellow Pj fans. Thanks guys! Only going from Thurs til Sun, so I'm planning on just using a carry on. Since I want to bring a poster for the pre-party raffle and then bring one home from the show, I'll just take em with me on the plane. Shipped one home from Tampa last year and it was like 10 bucks, just figured I'd save the 20 bucks or so for the round trip shipping.

I mailed my posters and stickers from the post office in Hawaii to So.Cal and it was a couple of bucks. I bought the tube from the post office... it was 5 bucks, maybe. Sent it regular First Class mail... stayed in Hawaii for a couple more days and it was at my house when i got home.

  • I live in Hawaii and have carried tubes on board (big Artillery tubes) all the time, and no worries. I even asked TSA the policy on poster tubes. They are allowed, and you can fit them nicely in the overhead compartment. :)
