Well I didn't overly love Supersonic and about 4 or 5 days after I'd first heard it I got really stoned and played it really loudly and liked it a LOT more. It finally clicked with me.

The final yeah yeah yeahs still sucked though. 8-)

So I know weed helps me sometimes....not sure about everyone else.

  • well for me its not having alot of free time and anything i do hear i think sucks, but the only exposure i see anymore is the crap they talk about on american idol(no i do not watch that crap either, but cant help to know about it when they put it on the front page of all the news outlets), so im sure theres good music out there but i havent found it yet. Pandora has sort of helped me though when i listen to it on the train, even though its awfully repetitive.

That being said, im stoked AIC and PJ both have albums coming out this month, this will be a music overload for me, haha.
  • yeah, i'm talking about the people who just don't like ANY kind of music, even the shitty pop stuff.

i mean, i can't imagine how they are wired.

I don't think so. I loved music long before I discovered the reefers. Had a 5 love affair with Led Zeppelin, then started sleepin around with PJ, Floyd, Beatles, Crowes, then came the smokin. If it makes a sound I like, I listen to it, doesn't take pot to make me enjoy any music. It is a whole different experience though, and I'd be lying if I said I had never gained a new appreciation for some music from bein stoned.

I met up with my cousin a few weeks back for the first time in about 10 years. I had my Ipod playing in the car on the way to his place and he said "So, you're still into music then?" like it was a phase that I should have grown out of years ago. I replied that music was pretty much my only vice and nearly all of my available money goes on gigs and cds.

My cousin then said that he had only been to 2 gigs in his entire life (The Cranberries and INXS, both in 92 or 93) and only owned about a dozen albums! I've been to more gigs than that this week and I'll certainly get more than a dozen albums in the next month.

I really don't understand how people can function properly without music in their lives. In my opinion, everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) is better when there's music involved. The 'weed' question doesn't really apply here. He's 36 and already acts like a grandfather. If I'd told him about my PJ obession he may well have had a coronary!

    Just my opinion.

Funny, I just had a conversation about this earlier today -- told a girlfriend about my recent trip to Chicago for the concerts and then mentioned that I'd be going to all four in Philly -- she asked me why I needed to go to all four. I tried explaining how different each show is and everything else. She just shook her head (she just didn't get it) and said "you and your concerts".

Well, I can kind of see her point.

That going to that many shows for one band is a little too obsessive.

Or maybe alcohol. I like to have a few drinks while listening to a new album( or even an old one). It helps me get into it more.

And she goes to Phillies game, after Phillies game, after Phillies game, and pays top dollar on Stubhub for good seats. We all have our obsessions.

    exactly! :)

and what exactly is obsessive about it? it's something you enjoy doing...as long as it doesn't interfere with your life and you have perspective what's the harm?

They don't have "musical intelligence." Apparently you don't have to have musical talent, per se, to have musical intelligence. It's just one of the forms of intelligence.

I've never been into weed, been into music since about birth.

my freshman year roommate never listened to music. when i fist got my room assignment i called him up to find out what he would be bringing... and to brag about the giant stereo system i was bringing up to school....which segued into my question to him about what type of music he listen to... he said "i dont listen to music"...i was totally crushed...

he was this tall lanky white kid...real anti social type..

one day i came back from class and he was listening to puff daddy...he jumped up and turned it off, like he was guilty of something when he realized he came in... it was so odd...

yeah it was puff daddy but at least it was music
it's largely due to eddie that i liked to jump off of things as a child...

i dont smoke weed and i love supersonic and music. its retarded to think ppl need to smoke weed to 'get music'.
  • my wife fits the category of someone that's not very into music, though she does enjoy PJ and understands my obsession. she went to a lot of blues traveler shows when she was in high school, but doesn't own ANY music, iPod, etc. she mostly listens to npr or talk radio in the car (unless i'm along of course). she likes music but she just doesn't "get into" it to the point that she needs it like i do. i'd go batshit nuts without it.

That's kind of harsh. No emotions or soul??

One of my closest friends owns the soundtracks to Footloose, Dirty Dancing, and some Disney movie, and that's about it. Sometimes I wonder how we've become such good friends.
