Pearljam is coming to Australia in November 09 and i'm stoked! I have my fixer field tickets to the Brisbane concert woot woot!.

I read all this stuff on the web about people meeting PJM. There were a few on MMM radio website (and I quote) "I met Pearljam last time they we're in Australia and I'm planning on doing it again this time".

How on earth do people manage to do this? I would love to be able to do this! . Its not so much to be an 'omg omg' freaky fan, but It would be great to say g'day and MOST awesome to get a photo and/or autograph :):) and make my mates jealous much (lol)!

If you've ever been so lucky as to experience the company of the Jam, I'd love to hear your story...and Id love it even more if you'd share your tips on how you got there!!

  • I happened to meet PJ In 1998 on their 2nd our of Oz..I happed to meet some people at one of the shows at Rod Laver that year and we hung out at all the Melbourne Shows. One of the girls there said that she happened to know where they were staying while in town. Now having NEVER met PJ before, I decided to take her at her word and go with her to see if we could meet them.

We got to the hotel REALLY early in the morning, probably somewhere around 8:30-9:00am, I honestly didn't think I had a chance in hell of meeting ANYONE remotley related to PJ in any way. Anyway around 9:30am Jeff walked out..OMG..I sware i almost died, he was nice enough and let me have a photo (in which i look WAAY too excited!! ) he signed some stuff for me and then went on his way. After about an hour Mike came out he was TRULY the nicest guy i have ever met, so accomodating and really nice to talk to, at one point during our meeting, i asked to take a photo, he agreed, i went to get my camera ready, when it almost died on me, Mike graciously waited for me to get my camera up and running and FINALLY I got my photos!

After Mike had left Jack came out, he was nice, didn't hang around for long, but was gracious enough to sign for those who were there, Then came Stone..Surprisingly I DIDN'T Freak out (Considering SG is my FAVE!!)
I never approached him, he instead walked up to myself and another person i was with and said "Do you have anything you want me to sign?" OF COURSE I DID!!. Surprisingly Stone remembered me from a few months beforehand when I had met him at a Ben Harper/Brad show I had been to, he was pretty nice, we talked for a while and he signed a few things, wouldn't let me take a photo though :cry

Not long after Stone had left, I was on SUCH a high, anyway i was talking to a few people about the whole experience so fa, whenall of a sudden who should I noice walking toward me but EV!!! :o

met Stone ed and boom after the SBE, was cool, they were all sound guys, incredibly down to earth.

your best shot is hanging around before and after the show but we found that there was no chance after the arena shows, they were impossible venues.
  • Sorry I am having to do this in 2 Posts cause it's a tad long!!

Anyway I COULD NOT believe that EV was walking towards me!! I remained calm though and walked up to him and said "Hi Ed", he said "Hi" back and then said "Y'know I'll sign whatever y'want, but NO photos" I obviously had to respect his wishes, Ed was REALLY nice this day, really accomodating to the fans that were there, he signed all my 10c singles and signed my personal diary that I was carrying with me at the time!! I could NOT believe it!

We talked for a few minutes, he was going to go surfing at Bells Beach this day,he seemed really excited about it which was AWESOME to hear him talk about!! :D

It was one of THE MOST AWESOME Days of my life, and I will NEVER, EVER Forget it!!

  • stoney g girl, thank you for taking the time to post that GREAT story. i would feel weird hanging out in a hotel waiting for them, but it sounds like they are totally down to earth people (as much as they can be considering they are the GODS of ROCK!).

I happened to make friends with a couple at SBE that I also met up with at the O2.
Unaware of there connections, they picked up some extra tickets at the O2 box office held for them which had two VIP aftershow passes in the envelopes.

After the show finished they said why not come with us and we'll see if we can get you in as well (me and my wife), so we did, they mentioned a few names, pulled a few strings and next thing, one of the road crew or senior tour managers or something, comes back with two extra VIP aftershow passes for us.

So we went through had some drinks etc and chilled out. Eventually come across Boom and Stone. Introduced myself to Boom first and had a little chat, I wanted to play it a little cool as we were on there turf so didn't ask for autographs or anything, didn't have a pen anyway, nor would they cause they were just socializing with friend etc. Anyway I had to make something of this opportunity and perhaps the one chance i'd probably get to meet my musical heros, so I asked if I could have a picture with him, he said yeah, in the photo he is doing the classic "hang loose" hand sign.

Then I introduced myself to stone, thanked him for a great show etc, and said is it cool to get a picture with you, he said yeah it's cool. got two great pics of me and stone.

That's my story, just thought I was attending yet another PJ show, but unexpectedly ended up at the backstage party - very cool and something I'll never forget, plus made some good friends in the process - thanks again Steve and Bek.

Strange to hear other peoples experience of refusing pictures so I won't post them up here, just incase the guys don't appreciate it.
I'm not one for getting front row at shows or hanging around after concerts to see if they'll come out etc, this opportunity just seemed to fall into my lap.

    Love it!

I met Jeff in January of 1993. I lived near the Nike store in West Hollywood, and was walking past it on my way to 7-11. I saw Jeff outside of the store, so I said hello, and we chatted for a few minutes. He mentioned that he was going uo to SF the next day for the NFC championship game (the Niners were good back then!). We said our goodbyes, and I went to 7-11. On the way back, I saw him leaving the store, and we nodded to eachother. I then remembered that I had the Kozik Soundgarden/PJ litho at home, so I asked if he could wait 2 minutes while I ran home to get the litho for him to sign. He said that he'd drive me home instead, so we made the short drive in his rental car. I remember we talked about how Bob Forrest (the singer from Thelonious Monster, and now Dr. Drew's asst. on Celebrity Rehab) botched-up the national anthem at a Clippers game a few days earlier. I then went inside to get the litho, and came back out for him to sign it. He was very cool about it.

You got a lift from Jeff Ament, that wins... everything.
  • Thanks Guys I've really enjoyed reading your stories, I am so so envious of you all :) I have my tickets to the brisbane concert (fixer field) It would really mean alot to me if I could but I'm not the kind of person who knows anything about this sort of thing, i've never tried to meet anyone famous...and dont otherwise want to, but iv'e just got to give it a shot when it comes to my absolute favourite band :):):)

It's probably really bizzare to them, I would think it was wierd if it meant THAT MUCH for someone to meet me for 2 minutes (lol) but I would be cool with it if it meant that much to them.. and it REALLY REALLY means that much to me !!

I'd trade the whole world for it :)

Do you think if I hang out before or after the concert that i'd have a shot at meeting PJM?

  • I met Ed in Vancouver after his solo show last year. My pic on here is a lasting reminder :)
  • These are great stories! I have one to add. August 1993 Pearl Jam were playing a show at the C.N.E. Grandstand, Toronto. There were a few bands playing on the bill and the headliner was Neil Young but I was there to see Pearl Jam.

Although I didn't have a plan to meet them I had a feeling I might so I tossed a picture from Spin Magazine and Sharpie in my bag. I had noticed a lot of people in my section had backstage passes so I started asking if I could borrow one, would you believe they all said"NO"?! I asked the security guy if I could go backstage for a minute and he said "NO"! So when Pearl Jam's set was over and everyone looked to the left, I dashed to the right walking right backstage. I casually strolled back there as if I belonged, being a girl and being alone (which is another story) does have its advantages.

The first person I recognized was Stone. He was having a beer so I walked up to him, very cool-like, even though my stomach was doing cartwheels inside, and just started talking about the show, we chatted for a while. He was so down to earth and so friendly. I felt like I was talking to an old friend. I also talked with Mike and Jeff, they came over to see who Stone was talking to, they were great! Jeff spent the whole time bopping around with a basketball. Mike was funny and really kind. I felt dorky asking for autographs but I had to, no one was going to believe this story and I didn't have a camera to take pictures. I pulled out my Spin pic and Stone and Mike signed it. They made fun of the picture and they all had a chuckle over how they looked and why they all had smiles, it was so cool!

I hung around and saw Neil Young arrive, he kind of looked at me as if he should know me and said hello. I ended up staying backstage the rest of the show, not having a pass I couldn't come and go. It was a night I will never forget and I can't say enough about how great these guys were and still are by the sound of everyones stories.

didn't meet them as such, but after the wellington gig in 98 we sifted about in frank kitts park... saw them all come out except ed & stone. then we were told mr vedder and mr gossard had left. gutted, so we wandered away and then saw one of the cars the others had gotten into parked by a different door so we stood there watching what was going on and then ed appeared and came down to get into the car. there was about 10-15 people there and jumped into the car which didn't have a wind down window so he got the driver to wind down the drivers window and he was leaning over the front seat with his arm out the window shaking hands. so i at least got a hand shake :)

I call B.S. on this one folks. THERE IS NO WAY you wander around backstage w/o a pass for the whole show. Maybe there were some favors involved.[listen to Frank Zappa's song "Crew Slut"].Any other stagehands want to verify this?

Now he knows where you live! ! !

  • I was lucky enough to meet EV after one of his shows in Philly this past June. We waited in the rain for two hours but it was worth it!
