Being up front for any Jack White project is pretty much a no brainer anyways...
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

my first show too. i smoked a joint for the first time during the ramones set and when eddie walked on stage the place went ape shit and i had to be lifted out of the pit. the only things that really stand out were the heat, immortality and indifference. the rest is a haze.

I hung around down front until Evenflow, when I was serendipitously flung headlong into one of my friends during a mosh pit (we had all gotten separated at the first song).

I was tired and dehydrated, but the main reason I gave up on the pit was that it was fucking up the show for me. I wasn't able to see ... I wasn't able to concentrate ... I wasn't able to savor what, for all I knew, would be the first and only time I'd get to see these guys.

So I left the pit during Even Flow and watched the rest of show from the hill in the back. The sun set during Indifference. It was magical.

I had pretty much the same experience in 95. The hill was the spot to be after you got beat around in the pit. Anyone remember the sound system going out during Porch? Here's a few photos I somehow took from the pit during the show. Scroll down to the bottom to see them. Total craziness ...

Not to hijack this thread but I am seeing a bunch of 10Clubbers from Austin posting here. Just got back from Chicago and Toronto and hanging out with some of my best friends from all over the US that I have met from following PJ. I've always thought I was the only Austin PJ fan!! We should arrange a 10C meetup somewhere and have a few beers a few weeks before ACL so that we can get to know each other. PM me if you think that is a good idea and I'll try to set something up. - Cheers.

I'd recommend we all meet up on the back porch at Texas Showdown, but alas, the best band in Austin is no more.

  • in all my years at acl, ive never seen a rowdy crowd. its always been quite relaxed. people are there to enjoy the music. i think ive seen a crowd surfer once or twice. that is about it.

then again, acl has never had pearl jam play there...
    I miss you hippiemom.

I wouldn't consider Pearl Jam crowds to be particularly rowdy anymore. We're old. :)

  • I def wanna be at the front but as I'm coming from London I don't know anyone over there yet so am going on my own. Would be nice to meet up with others before. Also, as I had to buy tix from ebay, I have a spare 1 for $100 which is what I paid for it. If anyone is interested message me.

I'm down. Since I haven't been to a show since 2000, I have no idea how these things work or get organized though.

I hear ya. Was hoping that we could all just meet for drinks/bar food one night during the week or something like that. There are quite a few places all around Austin. I am in Round Rock but could meet up anywhere. Would be bringing the girl too. She's also a 10C member and a transplant from Philadelphia.
