It's a strange subject - in my mind I'd love to get pictures/autographs with them and all that stuff. I think it depends on the situation though.

For example had the pleasure of watching a NIN soundcheck a few years back and had a 'meet and greet' where everyone brought something to sign and you had a very short chat with the guys which was great. However I've bumped into the drummer of Clutch a few times before gigs and asking for an autograph or picture didn't even cross my mind (even though I do think I'd like and autograph and/or picture), we just chatted for a while each time and now when he sees us he always comes over to say hello (as long as too many people aren't around) and has a quick chat.

So yeah, I reckon it depends on the situation with regards to autographs/pictures etc. I don't think it's 'wrong' or 'lame' etc to want such things, but it probably is best to leave it for times when the band 'expects' such things, such as pre/post shows - if you bump into them in the street or somewhere when they aren't 'on duty' I'd probably prefer a quick chat!

I know its weird, but I always thought I'd pretend to not know who they were and just ask them the time or something...I hate the idea of them thinking "Oh shit, not another fan" will grinning through their teeth and signing whatever crap I have in my pocket at the time.

Who am I kidding, I'd be dryhumping their leg!!!

The better option for people hoping to hang with him wouldve been to go to a certain Chicago bar. I was there until close and 'only' met Jeremy Roenick, and wasnt able to get into VIP (unlike a lot of PJammers, I'm just not selfless enough).... oh well! Bar was half empty and we were all hopeful that Eddie would grace us with a small set, but I'm sure he waited til after we left and the bar was 'shut down' :(

i have heard about this bar but he was with family so i thought he would go back to the hotel with them

Me too... btw though, Jeremy Roenick is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. I met him about ten years ago and I have yet to meet anyone as nice as he was.

Yea JR was nice, he brought down the PJammer couple I was sitting with to hang out with EdVed... I had to leave at close with the 'commoners', and they got to stay....

Yes it was family and friends only, but some people that knew workers were able to go hang out :(

Yeah, unfortunately that's how it goes with those things. One day I'll meet some cool connections and all that fun stuff. Until then I am sitting out on the curb with the rest of us!

I don't get the whole stalking a rock star for an autograph. I love Pearl Jam as much as anyone here - but I have NEVER EVER waited in hopes of meeting one of them. Not even waited after a Flight To Mars show to meet Mike, and he is very accessible after those shows I have heard. I don't need to know them - I just want to know their music.

If I happen to run into one of them in a grocery store or some place like that, I would say hi, but that's about it.

Don't feel bad... I always thought he said "Spelled my T-Shirt" as well. But I almost never read lyrics, I just try to figure them out by listening.

Yeah, I really couldnt see myself standing around waiting for hours for an autograph or anything like that. If i were to bump into them randomly somewhere, I would prob ask for a quick picture but thats about it.

I wouldnt wait outside his hotel, but I figure if you are hanging at a bar with friends having some drinks, its not stalking ;)

When I was 15 I went to my first concert and saw Duran Duran (I'm 42 now). After the show I hung around with my friends by the exit, I was a little over excited (as you are at 15). When their cars were leaving I leapt on the back of one of them and clung on for dear life. I had to be removed by security.

Hopefully I wouldn't do that to PJ and it was just youthful exuberance. But when you are young you do stupid things. Were these people just young and foolish?

so let me know if i'm a stalker or not. this year i traveled to the ev shows in nashville. day 2 i'm walking back from walgreens to my hotel and notice eddie's bus at the hotel across the street. at that minute i see the busdriver walk out followed by ed. i crossed the street and asked ed if i could shake his hand. he shook my hand and said thanks and then reached into his pocket and pulled out a pic and gave it to me. it wasn't until a minute later i realized that for all he knew i had been waiting out there all day. i've felt kind of guilty about it since but i feel if he was creeped out about it then he probably wouldn't have given me the pic. it may have helped that only 2 or 3 others were out there. what do y'all think?

    Not stalking.

I was grocery shopping near Wrigley last night and I knew Ed was singing the stretch. So I suppose I could have waited around outside the park. But I believe that if you are meant to meet someone, it will happen. You can't force it.

I don't really see why anyone would go out of their way to meet Ed anyway. I mean, if you're a teenager I guess it'd be cool to meet your "hero". And if you're a groupie....Eddie is probably less of an STD risk than say Slash or Tommy Lee. But if you're a man over 21 years old and you follow Eddie Vedder to his hotel, you have problems.

i don't really see why it's that strange to want to shake the hand of someone that has meant a lot to you. his music has been a large part of my life for a lot of years and i wanted to say thank you when i had the chance.

exactly...so I was at a show by the band "the breakfast" who were covering Phish's Lawn Boy for a halloween show. Mike Gordon heard about this (bass player for phish, who happen to be my favorite band) and went down to the show. I just happened to look to my left at one part and noticed him standing about 5 feet from me next to the soundboard. EVERYBODY left him alone and just let him enjoy his night out listening to another band cover his music. He had conversations with a couple people, but everybody was very respectful. I did not see one person ask for an autograph or anything. Only time I talked to him was at the bar, I thanked him for creating some of the best music ever, and asked if he would like a refill on his drink (which he declined). I was there hanging out with the tapers/band after the show was over, and Mike was armwrestling people. It was great, everybody treated him just like another fan at the show. That is one thing about Phish fans, they aren't "stalkers" like some people are for other bands (and no, I'm not calling all people chasing Eddie "stalkers", but some might be), they respect them and let them enjoy their life off stage. If it's a meet and greet, that's one thing, but waiting for hours or actively looking for their tour bus, etc... seems a bit over the top to me

i think they fall close to the people that knew he was going to the ballgame and stood out on a lot to see him

Kinda what I was thinking... the people who raced out of the game to see him... except me because I was in a nice orderly line. Sure, makes sense to me.

IMHO, it's ok to say hello/ask for an autograph at a show or after the show near the bus, etc., but to scope-out someone, or bother them when they are on their own time is a bit dodgy.

    I agree... leave him alone!

Those corduroy lyrics ring true also.
