i saw this yesterday- it was a really good movie. It had class- which a lot of these newer films just don't have. Its pace is a bit slow, as someone said earlier. But you just have to go with it. Yes, Christopher Waltz was excellent.

film was talked about in the movie thread but glad you made a separate one ...

like i said in that thread i think there is an oscar for christopher waltz ... who plays hans landa ... to pull off 4 languages and his sinisterness hasn't been seen in some time since ralph fiennes in schindlers list ...

great film in my opinion ... it moves a bit slow and with 3 primary languages being used - you have to settle into this gem
i know this is going to sound really weird but i was really impressed by his eating scenes... hahah..
man can chug some milk and eat some strudel!

I will say that after seeing it I wish Tarantino would do a western, Sergio Leone-style. I think he could definitely bring something extremely interested to the genre of westerns.
    I love that idea!
he acted in a japanese western... sukiyaki western django
it was kind of tarantino-esque... if that counts for anything.

christoph waltz was amazing; definitely deserves a nomination.

the only thing i would ask for is more nazi killing. i mean eli roth plays the "bear jew" and is known for swinging a club at the heads of nazis, yet we only saw him do this once.

and...SPOILER ALERT DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE...

i just wish that there was more climax to hitler being killed. i thought something with eli roth swinging his head off or something of that sorts would have been appropriate.

other than that the movie was great. great traditional tarentino long drawn-out conversations, leading up to a giant climax.

favorite scenes: opening scene, bar scene, basterds introduction.

"do you mind if I smoke my pipe?" ---hans landa.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

it was just funny. that and when they introduced one of the bastards and the paper headline (i think that what it was) popped up. they just did not belong, yet they were perfect.

Can't wait to see it again...incredible movie.

    Agreed...

and I disagree, they didn't need to show him do that more then once, not because i am squeamish or think it was over the top but just because the point was made, you have seen him do it, move on with the movie. It would just be overkill.

I've just seen it today. Tarantino is just a crazy mofo ... he just plays with History and he does it great.
It may not be his best movie but it has to be seen. Some people can find it too slow but some dialogues are hilarious and Christoph Waltz is just a crazy fucking Nazi. He got the best actor award in Cannes festival this year for this role and now I know why.

loved it, loved it, loved it!
start to finish....just thought it was great. i love tarantino's film so i expected to love it, but it really exceeded my expectations, which is rare. making a film about WWII part comedy is just genius. oh and the truly evil nazi....hell yes....brilliant! brad pitt had me in stiches as well, i LOVE him as a comedic actor. just soooooo good! 8-)

    HAHA

finally saw it last night! my favorite thing of tarantinos... hands down! (resevoir dogs still in second)

the dialogue tops anything he has done before... where the diner scene in resevoir dogs just seems kindof of stupid, his table conversation in this movie is excellent... and the VIOLENCE! GOOD GOD!

ANYONE WHO HASNT SEEN THIS MOVIE GO NOW! youd have to be a nazi sympathizer not to fully enjoy it... or maybe just a squeamish person... or a woman (no offense ladies but this it was bro-ish in the best sort of way)... or those that dont like tarantinos work

    GO ANYWAY

funny, i think pulp fiction comes across as way more violent. and btw - i do love pulp fiction, and all of tarantino's flicks. i am not really a 'fan' of violence, but when it works with the story, it works. and you dare dis the diner scene in reservoir dogs? :o i love, love, love that scene. this was a great flick tho, absolutely...i am sure upon repeated viewings it will just grow better and better like all his work has fr me.

  • Just saw Basterds. I enjoyed it. It was real funny. Performances were brilliant all around, but I gotta say there was something missing for me. Something I can't quite put my finger on that prevented it from being a great movie. It's not as good as Tarantino's first 3 films, but it's a definite step up from the Kill Bills and that shitfest Deathproof.

    Worth a look anyway.
