your hair will soon get used to not being washed alot.
your stuck in the "greasy hair, wash hair, greasy hair trap"
agreed.
and all you curly-haired folks....while my hair might not be curly now, my hair IS naturally curly, and i always found not washing daily is the BEST for curly hair. less apt to get frizzy and beat-up, really healthy! i can't pick thru my hair w/o it being wet either, so i simply rinse my hair in the shower and comb it in the shower with a wide-tooth comb, and/or, i use a mister bottle filled with water when i need to fix my hair up w/o a shower. tho i definitely identify with the product build-up issue. the more product i use in my hair, definitely need to shampoo more often! kinda why i am really enjoying my now stick straight hair, i rarely use products, so my hair stays and feels so clean much longer, and less need to shampoo!
if you didn't read the article that scb linked earlier, give it a look-see....was quite interesting and informative.
try not washing it for a week, nothing,no water, then you can wash everyother day and it will help.
also try changing your shampoo/contitioner,and also changing your hairbrush/comb.
I change up products quite regularly and the same with brushes (at least once every 6 months, but usually more often). I have some interviews coming up so the not washing may have to wait for a while
you really shouldnt.they over stimulate the oil gland on your head, also the put a lot more pressure on the hair and make it more prone to snap, have split ends.

I say brush - it's a very wide-toothed one and I try to avoid using it right from the root as much as possible. Only use it when it's first washed then I leave it to dry naturally and don't use it again until it's been all washed again.
you deffinatly shouldnt use a brush on wet hair man!
but each to there own.
i'm'a gonna stop my preaching now.
No bother - luckily I have really strong hair, when I do go the hairdressers they're usually surprised my hair isn't nearly as damaged as they expect when I tell them it's been 12+ months since I've had it cut. I usually give it a quick brush with the conditioner on - it's a lot easier to manage once its rinsed then too!
Interesting article posted earlier, if I manage to get a job soon I may try it if I book a week off sometime!
So what do you guys do after exercising? I have short hair but sweat like a pig, so I need to throw a little shampoo on to freshen up daily..I'd feel dirty if I just ran some water through it....and btw, if you're a guy, the person cutting your hair should be a barber, not a hairdresser ..
'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening
and I'll overdo it'
i cut my own hair.i havent been to a hair dresser since i was 13.

i thought feeling dirty was a good thing?
errmmmm..other topic i guess.
well, i don't exercise daily. :P however, i definitely get hot easily, can get sweaty....and i still don't shampoo daily. it really dpends. also, when you break the cycle of washing daily, you realize, your hair really doesn't feel dirty just b/c you sweat, whatever. obviously, it will, in time....but a day or two? not really. i find hair product build-up the biggest issue for shampooing more. if i use more products, i need to shampoo more often....but even then, i still go a minimum of 2-3 days between shampoos....my hair looks so much better, whether straight or curly.
I have oily hair so after 2-3 days it needs some shampoo, not just a rinse with water.
Conditioner is once a week.
With spring time coming up I will be back exercising, so will need to wash it with shampoo after each workout other wise I'd feel too dirty, or can I get away with just a rinse with water to get the sweat out hmmm?

I read online that the oils are good for your hair, strengthen it.
I will try conditioner only next time, see how it goes.
If I have a bad hair day at work it is all your fault, jk hehe.
Well, you can't strengthen hair, but they keep it from weakening.
Does anyone who washes their hair just a few times a week use hair gel or hair products?
I use a little gel and feel the need to wash everyday just to keep the gel from building up.. not enough to make my hair shiny, but just enought to keep it controllable. My hair seems to get frizzy without gel.

I wash every other day and use hair products. And have crazy curly hair. My friends say in the morning it looks like a "ruptured chickens butt", and they are right.
I end up wetting my hair just a little bit in the shower to kind of refresh the product from the day before. I had to play with what I needed the 2nd day to figure out the right combination. I usually just add more leave in conditioner and a cream styinlg pomade. I really do like my hair better the 2nd day. The curls are more defined and smooth.
I can't go a 3rd day though, too much build up of product.

I never use any hair products - except shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner/detangler.

have you ever tired simply rinsing/wetting your hair rather than washing?
currently i rarely use hair products, but when my hair is curly i most definitely do. and yet, i still only need to wash a few times a week. rinsing your hair with water helps enormously, and actually a little 'build-up' is good for my hair, visually. when my hair is curly i probably wash my hair 2-3x a week....whereas while it is straight i wash it 1-2x a week.
also, i think most people simply use TOO MUCH of.....everything. shampoo, conditoner...and most especially hair products such as gel, mousse, etc. a little goes a long way. less is more. everyone should try to use less. probably better for your hair, for your wallet and sure...even the environment.
for example, when I go to this one semi-hick grocery store,so many people have the same odor, and I do not mean from lack of deodorant/anti-perspirent. It's from not washing their hair and I can smell it a few feet away and it's not good.

i'm suprised how many don't
every day except one day on the weekend when i bum it by skipping a shower
I'm thinking guys with short hair can get away with washing everyday if they want. The body has to produce much less oil for less hair. If you workout everyday like me, I think its better to wash, but I suppose I should use very little shampoo.

Uh... no. What's the point in getting it wet if I'm not going to use shampoo? Getting it wet is the worst part.
