Do you wash your hair every day?

Seeing my hair is getting on with length nowadays, growing it long hehe.
Just curious, my hairdresser says no need.
I just wet it in the shower when I don't wash it so to get the bed hair out.
My hair gets oily after 1 day without washing so I wash it every 2-3 days, condition it once a week.
My hair gets too dry and boofy after I wash it, once the oils set it it looks nice!
Any guys here with long hair, let us know.
Sorry for the girly topic, need some tips!

    every day? hells no!

there's really no need to :) I wash my hair every 2-3 days too (or more ofthen if necessary, during the summer or something.)
washing your hair too often doesn't really do it any good. water just dries it up (so be sure to use conditioner! but remember not to overdo that either :D )

I have a friend who used to shower 2 or even 3 times a day and she always washed her hair too. then she couldn't figure out why her hair was so thin and her skin so dry. hah. good thing she's wisened up nowadays.

sometimes it's good to let your hair go really greasy too. :? I've done that a couple times when I've known I won't have to go anywhere.

I read online that the oils are good for your hair, strengthen it.
I will try conditioner only next time, see how it goes.
If I have a bad hair day at work it is all your fault, jk hehe.

I wash my hair once or twice a week (but I don't live in a humid climate).

Here's an interesting story NPR did about how often hair should be washed:

I'm also a once or twice a week person ... my hair is too dry to handle any more than that.

I have longish hair and I wash my hair once every 2/3 days as it can get oily. But everyday is just stupid as your hair will just produce more oil to overcompensate the fact you wash it every day.

  • I used to wash it every day, but then heard that it wasn't the best for your hair.

Now I wash it every other day, which seems to be just right. I'd probably leave it maybe another day if I didn't have to put glue crap on it to get it styled!!
It's gonna be a glorious day...

If you feel like you get oily after one day, you can always use a dry shampoo. http://sephora.com/browse/section.jhtml ... yId=C17780 I like the one by Ojon.

I'm on my way there... got the thin, receding hairline going, and a super dry scalp. I probably shouldn't wash it every day, but I do because it gets so itchy if I don't. Maybe I should cut back to twice a week.

I wash and condition my hair everyday!

I have really oily hair and suffer from really bad bed hair so every morning whilst in the shower I wash it. I also use Frizz ease on it as it's shoulder length and naturally curly with a tendancy to frizz. A friend of mine can only wash hers once a week and then uses loads of conditioner as her's is really dry.

It just depends on the type of hair you have I guess. :D

    me too.
i do live in a humid climate, but it's fine. sure, if i get very active, i may wash, at most....3x a week, but 1x....maybe 2x...is my norm. sure, i get it wet when i shower so i comb thru and all, but shampoo daily? no way. my hair is very long, and right now, permanently straightened (naturally curly) so at the moment it is even easier than ever. i comb my hair and it is good to go! when it is curly i just use a pick instead of a comb, but i usually have to add styling products. while straight, i rarely add any at all. i may do different things, ponytails, twists, etc....straight or curly...but oh yea, i do not have high maintainence hair and i love it.

Just out of curiosity, what treatment did you get to permanently straighten your hair? I'm naturally curly too and have been thinking about having it professionally straightened for a while.

    japanese straightening

i've had it done professionally 2x now...once last year, and again this past june. it is SO easy. and my hair is healthy, shiny, straight.....though about 8 months in my roots start up a bit, looking more like my natural hair. it is a pricey procedure, tho varies greatly....but i love it. especially since my hair is so long, i really only get my hair cut once a year. so sure, the straightening is expensive, but i 'save' on hair cuts, and also so much less styling products.....and TIME. so dead easy. tho procedure does take like 6-7 hours. but as i said, once a year....that's it...works for me. :) good luck!

for those who say they only wash their hair once or twice a week... you mean with shampoo, right? still getting it wet/clean in the shower everyday?
  • I get really cranky if I don't wash daily. It feels too grody to let it go without.

As a kid I had very oily hair, so I washed everyday up until a few months ago.
It's every other day now. But I do sort of get weirded out about it, so it's often swept up by bandana/scarf on the second day.

    exactly.
rinsing your hair with water is not 'washing' it. washing requires shampoo. sometimes i will even condition my hair w/o shampooing, tho not often. basically, it's a wet rinse most of the time...an then shampoo/condition 1 or 2x a week. and now that i think about it, usually once a week.

I do for two reasons 1) I have curly-ish hair and I can't brush it unless it's wet and 2) I bike around a lot, work out most days, etc, so I have to wash out the sweat.

nope...every other day. half the time my hair is up in a ponytail, so you can't tell that it hasn't been washed.

Every day - unless I'm not going out anywhere then I might leave it for a day. But it gets oily so quickly I don't feel right going out unless it's clean!

Yeah I do not like the way it feels after even one day of washing it....unless it's blowdried straight! But no, I put Mousse on it every day and i don't want to sleep on that or just condition over it. I can't comb my hair worth a damn either if I don't condition every time. Must be nice not to have to wash daily!

Yeah that would be sooo good! I have curly hair and unless I tie it up I have to wash and condition it to do anything with it - but I feel 'dirty' if I go out without clean hair! Maybe I have an 'issue' with it
