Wish he'd go back to that.
In fact, I prefer the way Matt was drumming most of the Yield songs in '98 as opposed to now.
Just listening to that version now, and yeah I agree, he sounds really good. I think the main problem with it these days is that they play it too fast in general, it sounds much better when they let it build up slower and then it explodes.0 -

Agreed. I just don't understand why some of these songs are being played so much faster. Even though Evenflow is very tired for me, I think I would still enjoy it a lot more if it were played at the original slower tempo. So many of the songs were originally based around these dramatic changes in dynamic, with swells in energy and intensity. I think a great deal of this is lost when they try and play the songs at a break-neck pace. GTF is the perfect example for me, but there are other songs that suffer from the whirlwind pacing.
For whatever reason this has been more pronounced since Matt's been around. At the end of the day, it only affects some of the songs and it is by no means a showstopper for me, but if Eddie and the boys were to happen to be reading this thread I would tell them to slow it down a bit.5/28/06 - Camden, NJ

Totally agree about Even Flow, the speeded up and lengthened version does very little for me. I've gotta confess I took the opportunity to go for a piss during the Even Flow jam at the O2 show! My mate asked how I knew when the best time to go was - as soon as they started jamming I knew I had a full five minutes!0 -

Of course it's my opinion.. but he is just awesome. Been here 11 years now and is very consistent. His vocal harmony's are great also.

IMHO he is the best drummer...for Soundgarden. Soundgarden is an awesome band and Matt suits perfectly for their colder and meaner sound. Pearl Jam really needs softer and more laid back touch. Matt is too mechanical or robotic for them. Guess who's my favorite134xxx

Eddie had it right in the liner notes for Lost Dogs regarding Matt. I wish he'd write more songs as his always jump out at me when I first listen to a new album.
That said, I agree with whoever said that they could stand to slow some songs down in concert. The energy is great, but I feel like they are rushing through some seriously great music sometimes.I suggest you step out on your porch...run away my son...see it all...oh see the world // I wait on the porch...hoping someday I'll be let in
