It's funny how it works. When No Code came out, I thought it was different. After several listens, it was good. Within a year, it was great. Within another year, it was their best.
This could be the only band in existence with albums I never will be bored of, regardless of how many listens.

So true. When No code came out I waited in line at a midnight release for it and when I put it on I was like WTF? But then I listened more and more and eventually it's definitely my favorite!!!

Exactly. Some people have trouble with this concept ... PJ's "challenging stuff" is largely on Binaural and Riot Act (although No Code got flack when it came out too). I think both are brilliant albums, with Binaural being my favorite PJ album period. This doesn't mean I don't love the Ten/Vs. classics ... In Binaural and Riot Act, though, they've done what very few (non-prog) rock bands have really managed to do ... They kept the rock, but blended in subtleties and atmosphere.

I thought Cameron's song writing contributions on Riot Act saved that album. I realize I'm in the total minority there...

  • Pearl Jam have never made a shitty album - but if they did it'd be Riot Act.

  • 1/2 Full is my favorite song on the album, I just love it... I also think it's the best live song off of RA.
i generally continue to hate Riot Act, as it has not yet become awesome despite the thread title, but I love 1/2 Full! Awesome live too. I like the bluesiness of it. For some reason, the music reminds me of No Code in a way (kinda Habit-like).

When it gets to the "who will save the world?" part, it reminds me of Pearl Jam greatness.

I never appreciate the newest pearl jam album. I just fell in love with riot act recently and I won't care for avocado until their next album comes out.

I love every riot act song but ghost. What the fuck were they thinking. I never knew soap made you taller? Plus the worst chorus ever.
    Get over here!

    totally...

I'd like to call it "artsy", and that PJ period came to an end with the avocado thing... that's poppy.

    And that's that.

Now, about the original post question. I'd say since the avocado was released. Now that a lot of RA haters are fed up with the shanias, they're developing more appreciation for the real pj feel. Welcome back, enjoy.

i dont NORMALLY listen to Riot Act on a regular basis. However, one morning not too long ago, it was cold and dark and I went for a drive and put Riot Act on. Man oh man. That disc is a great one. Its not my FAVORITE. But it was good company that cold morning in cali. There ARE some gems on there. I must say, Im more of a rockin out kinda person and not into the "slow jams" but.......Thumbing My WAy is GREAT.
