I can only listen to a few songs from RA. That was a great tour, but the boots just wear on me now.
Sacramento 10-30-00, Bridge School 10-20 and 10-21-01, Bridge School 10-25 and 10-26-01, Irvine 06-02-03, Irvine 06-03-03, San Diego 06-05-03, San Diego 07-07-06, Los Angeles 07-09-06, Santa Barbara 07-13-06, London UK 06-18-07, San Diego 10-9-09, San Diego 2013, LA 1 2013
I know that not a lot of people read this sort of thing but I'll do it anyway because I like doing it
Can't Keep - love this song. Amazing opener. Brilliant drums and the folky sound is great.
Save You - never liked this song. Vedder sounds bored (like on the rest of the album) and the song isn't heavy enough, despite the nature of the lyrics.
Love Boat Captain - Great song for the first two minutes, then after that it loses me.
Cropduster - Unremarkable and goes nowhere
Ghost - kind of catchy but similar to Cropduster, I don't think it goes anywhere.
I Am Mine - beautiful. One of the first Pearl Jam songs I loved.
Thumbing My Way - I know this gets a lot of love but it just plods along for me. Boring.
You Are - best song on the album, and I'd put it in the top 10 Pearl Jam songs. Everything about this song is just funky and cool. 2:59 - 3:10 = probably some of the coolest pieces of guitar ever recorded for a CD
Get Right - it's okay, the verses seem a bit flat. Vedder sounds energised here, which is good.
Green Disease - another amazing song, even better live. Love it.
Help Help - it baffles me to this day the amount of hatred this song gets. The way it builds up at the end is just epic. It's different certinally. But, along with You Are, it's one of those "Pearl Jam Experimental Songs (tm)" that actually suceeds.
Bushleaguer - brilliant music ruined by hungover vocals and fucking annoying lyrics. I'm not a fan of Bush and I'm glad that Pearl Jam has never resorted to been a greatest hits set. The politics sets them apart from other bands, but here they go a step to far. If you want to see a Bush-bashing song done right, check out Livin In The Future by Bruce Springsteen, or even some of the stuff on Avacado.
1/2 Full - second best song on the album behind You Are. Pearl Jam really need to try their hand at this blusey sound again. Guitar is outstanding.
All Or None - really depressing and gets me in a bad mood, but I guess that's the point. A real downer of a closer but still a great song.
I guess I liked this album more than I thought, but it's still not their best.
the only thing really wrong with RA is that it has too many songs on it.
they left Sad and Fatal off of Binaural, but they kept Help Help and Bushleaguer on RA? those songs have their place...it just should have been on Lost Dogs
I personally like Cropduster, Ghost, and Get Right (which I know a lot of people don't), but I don't like You Are and Green Disease (which I know a lot of people do).
I think this would have been a great tracklist for RA
1. Can't Keep
2. Save You
3. Love Boat Captain
4. Cropduster
5. Ghost
6. I Am Mine
7. Thumbing My Way
8. Get Right
9. 1/2 Full
10. Other Side
11. Arc
12. All or None

it's personal preference.... LBC and TMW are my two favorites..... but I'm partial to the slower "prettier" PJ tunes....
1/2 Full is in my top 5 PJ of all time and you can't deny the quality of songs like I Am Mine, You Are, Save You and LBC
Glad you've found an affinity for it
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
as already metioned riot act was awesome the minute it was recorded
2cnd fave PJ album behind No Code

What's crazy is I just put the record on my turntable, I'm listening to side 3 right now and I see this post. I like this album a lot, there are a few songs I don't care for, but for the most part I like it. I like having the actual "album" and not the cd, the booklets and packaging are awesome, listened to No Code yesterday on vinyl also, cool booklets and packaging as well, LONG LIVE VINYL.......
when i first bought riot act me and my brother cruised around listening to it and i remember after every song thinking this is really good. green disease is one of my favs..and live that song is so awesome!
Ever since No Code, they have been really treating their fans with remarkable respect in writing songs that aren't meant to be catchy on the first listen, but are meant to grow and get more complex and beautiful with each successive listen. Like great wine. Binaural is DEFINITELY one of those albums, and Riot Act is also.

It's funny how it works. When No Code came out, I thought it was different. After several listens, it was good. Within a year, it was great. Within another year, it was their best.
This could be the only band in existence with albums I never will be bored of, regardless of how many listens.

So true. When No code came out I waited in line at a midnight release for it and when I put it on I was like WTF? But then I listened more and more and eventually it's definitely my favorite!!!

Exactly. Some people have trouble with this concept ... PJ's "challenging stuff" is largely on Binaural and Riot Act (although No Code got flack when it came out too). I think both are brilliant albums, with Binaural being my favorite PJ album period. This doesn't mean I don't love the Ten/Vs. classics ... In Binaural and Riot Act, though, they've done what very few (non-prog) rock bands have really managed to do ... They kept the rock, but blended in subtleties and atmosphere.

1/2 Full is my favorite song on the album, I just love it... I also think it's the best live song off of RA.
i generally continue to hate Riot Act, as it has not yet become awesome despite the thread title, but I love 1/2 Full! Awesome live too. I like the bluesiness of it. For some reason, the music reminds me of No Code in a way (kinda Habit-like).
When it gets to the "who will save the world?" part, it reminds me of Pearl Jam greatness.
I never appreciate the newest pearl jam album. I just fell in love with riot act recently and I won't care for avocado until their next album comes out.
I love every riot act song but ghost. What the fuck were they thinking. I never knew soap made you taller? Plus the worst chorus ever.
