I am really enjoying all of this. Force of Nature sounds awesome, Amongst The Waves sounds great, Johnny Guitar has some fun lyrics, Unthought Known with that LBC build so much to look forward to. Not sure I like what they did with the Speed of Sound but otherwise big thumbs up on all of this.
I agree here - I like the demo speed of sound better but it probably is something I just got used to - the full version studio version can grow on me as well. Amongst the Waves clip here sounds so much different than the verizon clip, it is going to be exciting to hear how this song really lifts off to hit the verizon clip levels!
And Gonna see my friend is definately soudning more like The Who - great opener. I am not feeling some of the others yet but Just Breathe is already in my top 10 - its that good.
Man, now I have to spend all day at work wishing I could listen to these clips. This is going to be torture.
I like the Yield reference, although I haven't heard the similarity so far. I guess we'll see. While I'd love to have that be the case, I'm also looking forward to another new/different PJ album.
You might have to cut out early or take a lunch break to your closest library. I wouldn't wait to hear these. This is going to be an awesome Pearl Jam record!
Well said, and I concur. My brother is at work right now so I'm feeding him little details about each song to hold the tide until he can escape. Backspacer!!!!! Love this band.
I was watching MTV Unplugged last night, and couldn't help feeling a bit of pride knowing that I chose to fall in love with this group nearly 20 years ago, and today they're STILL managing to impress me not only with their music, but as people too. We're lucky fans!
I'm loving what I've heard...Force of Nature sounds kinda like In Hiding, definitely feeling the Yield references...Johnny Guitar and Amongst the Waves are awesome, Speed of Sound and the slow, country sound I'm still on the fence about that...but loving the first listen to these clips!
I met my wife here...you can too! Don't lose hope!
I'm so excited for this. Reminds me of something close to Yield in it's overall sound, which for me is great. Seems to have a good balance of songs (my gripe with Avacado was it had too many in too similar a tone) and Ed sounds great, much better than Avacado which, I don't know, the whole record was too fuzzy and abrasive. (Just to clarify though, I did love their last album despite those two things )
Gonna See My Friend sounds like my favorite so far. heh, they werent kidding when they said this was going to be a pop album though. i think i was deluding myself into believing Fixer and Supersonic were gonna be the only ones. sounds pretty good though.
Resisted for 0.2 seconds...sounds really good, a great variation of songs and from what I can tell the production sounds pretty smart too, as you'd expected from Bo'B

Damn, this sounds good. Not dissapointed what so ever. I start to understand the "christmas gift" comment. This album is a gift and compared to previous albums; stand on its own. Can't wait for the whole album!!!
So far, and this will change every day, Just Breathe is my favourite... What a beautiful lyrics!
So far I am super impressed...but will wait to go crazy.
I remember with Avacado...the WWS clip everyone said it sounded like the OffSpring. I also remember saying it was my favorite PJ album - but that wore off very quickly.
It's wierd that every new PJ album is everyone's favorite until it gets completely stored in your memory banks after 1000 listens. Then the "newness" wears off and it's countdown for the NEXT album.

Yeah I'm really conscious of that, but I know I was nowhere near as impressed with Avocado as I am with this new stuff. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, but from what I've heard this one seems to have all the hooks that Avocado sometimes sorely lacked. And I don't think I'll ever be a huge fan of Riot Act, so I feel that my gut reaction is based on something more than blind sycophancy!
well i can say that i was not nearly as excited after hearing S/T and RA for the first time (actually not excited at all), and dont care for the two songs that are out now, but i'm really happy Backspacer so far.
I just got done listening to them all, I think I can safely say that for me, this is going to be their best record since Yield.
Total opposite for me - the more I hear the more I think 'meh'
This album is going to be horrible.

Gonna See My Friend - I don't really like the clip for this one, but I could still see it being a badass rocker.
Got Some - Sounds like a great rocker, very catchy.
The Fixer - I love this song, but we already know how it sounds.
Johnny Guitar - A little unsure of it based on the clip, some weird lyrics.
Just Breathe - I can tell this is an amazing song.
Amongst the Waves - Sounds very anthemic, I can't wait to see how it sounds in full.
Unthought Known - I really like what was added to this song with the full band. Another favorite.
Supersonic - I've heard this song already, and it's a great punky rocker.
Speed of Sound - I like this song, but I didn't really get much from that clip, it kind of sounds like "Gone".
Force of Nature - Sounds cool, but I have to listen to it again to register something.
The End - Another beautiful song, I love when Eddie goes acoustic so I know I'm going to love this.
Clips sound awesome, i dont know what it is but cant get the Just breathe clip out of my head. Im really diggin it and cant wait for the full song!!!
From the clip, it sounds like it's going to be a number of PJ fan's wedding song. I'm loving everything I've heard. I like the subtle layering of Ed's voice in the chorus of Got Some. Going to see my friend sounds amazing. I am very interested in seeing how in Amongst the waves this clip becomes the Verizon clip. I hear what people say about Yield. I'm happy and anxious.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
I'm excited to hear the whole thing. I wish since its such a short album that they would have put some of the filler things they've put in before.... Simple percussion songs. Maybe a bass jam (no vocals) from Jeff. Just a few of thier signature weird shit that is usually peppered into other albums. They could have gotten it up to 14 tracks with a couple experimental interesting little nugget.
Seems like its all meat. I'm really stoked. Amongst the Waves has me most excited.

This album is going to be horrible.
Don't know if I'd say horrible, but Amongst the Waves is the only song that really jumps out at me. That's the kind of PJ I love... soaring and anthemic. Reminds me of In My Tree or g2f. The rest... the riff rockers sound as generic as usual, Johnny Guitar has one of the most awkward vocal performances I've heard, and the rest sound ok. But I'll wait to hear the whole thing before I write it off.

I am so pumped!

Yeah that's a personal favourite of mine at the moment too.
I was worried the full band version of Speed Of Sound wouldn't be as good as Ed's solo version, but it sounds excellent, very nicely done.
