    No.....sorry.....just being honest.

When I hear this it reminds me of a bad 70s song. Especially the beginning and the chorus.

Now mind you it is no Cropduster. I just felt this should have been left as a B-side and replaced with something stronger on the album.

    I'm with this guy...

Me too, sorry. Actually, it reminds me a lot of Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA," and that is not a compliment coming from me.

    lol! ;) Blasphemy!

I know, I'm setting myself up for trouble by saying that. I've never been into Bruce. I'm not going to bash him -- I live in New Jersey, I know how popular he is! -- but his work never has done much for me. I much prefer the rest of "Avocado."

Ha ha -- no, not even a real "Jersey girl." I'm a transplanted west coaster; both of my kids are Seattle natives. :)

I'm really surprized to see the differentation of opinions relevant to Pearl Jam's catalogue of music. I can understand how many might feel different towards various 'interesting' songs... but let's be honest... this band has pumped out countless songs that are pretty damn awesome- the type of songs that should really work for a hard core fan and the type of song that wins over even the casual or non-fan.

Unemployable is a wicked tune that, at least for me, ranks in the top 15 tunes these guys have done (Jeremy- this message board's whipping boy- is and always has remained number 1). 'Avocado' receives waaaay too much criticism. A pretty damn good effort for a band approaching 20 years. This album, and this next one should be celebrated and enjoyed.

Can't wait for Vancouver and Seattle!

Yah I agree. I love all of Avocado but Unemployable realllly stands out, along with Inside Job. After 20 years they still making beautiful music

Finally, a thread with a good discussion, not bash session.

    Shut up!! :lol::lol::lol:

No, seriously, I absolutely loved Unemployable from the first time I heard. I can't fathom why anyone would dub it "Unlistenable." But, to each their own.

    BTW, Parachutes = unlistenable.

  • Unemployable = one of my least favorite songs on Avacado.

    Order of 1st to worst:

    1 Army
    2 Gone
    3 Come Back
    4 Marker
    5 Comatose
    6 Life Wasted
    7 Parachuttes
    8 Big Wave
    9 Inside Job
    10 Severed Hand
    11 WWS
    12 Unemployable
    (no wasted reprise)

This was pretty hard to rank and changes weekly.

I always thought Inside Job was a little overrated myself.

Army Reserve is not really my cup of tea either.

Just so people don't accuse me of straight up hating.....I really like Marker (best lyrics on the album), Comatose (best concert song off the album) and Severed Hand.

holy shiiiiiii....... Unemployable, sick, just look at the title. For anyone who ever has enjoyed doing there own thing, calling the shots and not answering to anyone for their income this is where it's at.

Lyrics are sick, ....and the big boss said you best be on your waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, yeah!

jumpin trains just to survive....up lights a cigarette he's grown to hate thinking if he can't sleep how will he ever dream?

    Totally sick..........

The song never did much for me until I heard it in Toronto last night.

"This song's about a guy who not only doesn't have any heathcare...But he doesn't have a fucking job either".

Ed sang it with a ton of fire and it just elevated "Unemployable" to a whole other level.

    Very intense version.
