Is anyone else in love with this song???
I swear if they play this at the Seattle shows I might pass out.
Just watching them play it on Letterman gets me all excited for the show.

i like the song live.... album version is simply meh.... I like the story it tells more than the actual music, if that makes sense.
  • "unemployable" is one of my favorite PJ songs. easily in my top ten. perhaps top five. it's equally catchy and complex.

  • No.....sorry.....just being honest.

When I hear this it reminds me of a bad 70s song. Especially the beginning and the chorus.

Now mind you it is no Cropduster. I just felt this should have been left as a B-side and replaced with something stronger on the album.

The song is soo good live. I think The Fixer has a similiar poppy feel to this one.

Cropduster is a great song. Much better than Unemployable. Just my opinion. :)

Seconded (or thirded). I don't hate Unemployable, but I have to be in the right frame of mind to really dig it. It gets skipped more than any song on Avocado, for sure.

  • I absolutely love this tune. My favorite from the Pearl Jam album and is a great live song, too. The lyrics are totally trenchant, given the state of the country right now, and it is an under appreciated gem.
  • I'm really surprized to see the differentation of opinions relevant to Pearl Jam's catalogue of music. I can understand how many might feel different towards various 'interesting' songs... but let's be honest... this band has pumped out countless songs that are pretty damn awesome- the type of songs that should really work for a hard core fan and the type of song that wins over even the casual or non-fan.

Unemployable is a wicked tune that, at least for me, ranks in the top 15 tunes these guys have done (Jeremy- this message board's whipping boy- is and always has remained number 1). 'Avocado' receives waaaay too much criticism. A pretty damn good effort for a band approaching 20 years. This album, and this next one should be celebrated and enjoyed.

Can't wait for Vancouver and Seattle!

Me too, sorry. Actually, it reminds me a lot of Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA," and that is not a compliment coming from me.
