Personally, I don't want a leak. The internet has taken away all the excitement of an album release.

No more build up and anticipation of the album release and then rushing out to the store on the release date, madly clutching the CD in your hand wondering what it's going to sound like as you rush back home again.
Trying to keep your hand steady with excitement as you carefully place it in the CD player, wondering what the first track is going to be like. Bouncing round the room as the first riffs kick in and that chill down your spine as the first lyrics are sung.

It's all gone....so I'm keeping a bit of the old magic alive by not listening to anything until the actual release date.

Yeah, I'm a bit weird that way....

Mmmmmm, I have all that when I hear my first leaked version ;)

But I do know what you mean: I'm from the vinyl generation...

I used to be very anti-leak. Tried not to listen to leaked versions (always failed and felt guilty) until ST or so. A year before it leaked someone close to me died and exactly (almost on the hour) on the anniversary the album leaked. For me it has been since then: life is too short to wait. If it leaks I listen to it. But I do think though, that you're also obligated to buy the album. (It's an unwritten agreement.)

What I don't like are the snippets and the ringtones. If I'm going to hear something, than at least a whole song. I think those ringtones takes the fun away... Just my opinion tho.

I personally enjoy the adrenaline rush of spontaneously finding that it's leaked...the mad anticipation while it downloads....... The only thing I don't have is the cd artwork in my hand, which doesn't really add to the experience to me, I'm too busy rocking out

I heard Avocado a few weeks before it came out officially and it was a poor quality - it just spoils the whole experience. Why ruin listening to your favourite band's new record just because you have no patience?!?!?!?

21st Sep can't come round soon enough but if there are any leaks of the album I won't be listening to them - there is nothing better than to go buy the album on release date and rush back to listen to it while flicking through the album booklet/artwork etc!!!!!!

savour the time we dont have it!!! 36 mins of music might get real old real fast! and then we will be waiting for the next one for 3 or 4 more years....just savour the fact that we are all fans, we have tickets to shows and the album is on its way! LIVE IN THE NOW!

    Amen to all that! ;)

Agree, and I wish I wasn't so damn impatient about new music, because I end up listening to the shitty quality ringtones, crappy myspace streams, and inaudible live clips before a leak or release date. I will def download a leak, but I ALWAYS pre-order/buy the album too. Patience is not one of my virtues!

Refresh my memory...how far before the release dates did Binaural and Riot Act leak?? I remember downloading the crappy quality version of S/T. I seem to recall having S/T several weeks before it released. Given that The Fixer didn't leak at ALL, I'm willing to bet that Backspacer may put up a good fight compared to their last two. I bet this one leak around the week of 7 Sep (roughly 2 weeks before its official release). It would be really cool if it leaked on Labor Day weekend so I have a nice long weekend to rock some new PJ. :)
  • I REALLY REALLY don't want a leak, should it happen.

The band want us to hear it on a certain date so i'll listen to it on a certain date. I can't wait to get the physical goods in my hand, put it in the stereo and press play, not knowing what to expect... nothing beats that old school feeling.

    Fuck leaks.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
  • Bring on the leak...I'll have fun hearing it on vinyl when sept 20th comes. Till then, give me the mp3 ASAP.

Well...my preference of a leak aside, or lack thereof...two things have impressed me in recent years for this band.

    1. Last year at the NYC shows, I was getting asked by scalpers to BUY the tickets from me. I hardly saw any for sale, the scalpers were the buyers. Loved it! I turned down $1500 for my 2 tickets. Imagine others turned down similar.

    2. The lack of a leak! Almost unheard of this close to a release date. I'd love to see them make it all the way through without it happening. Anyway...in case anyone hasn't noticed, the band is doing a controlled leak. As long as you are patient, you can hear all the songs before the release in various forms...almost all of them official.

Anyway...I applaud the band for the above 2 measures. They are obviously doing something right.

i agree 100% i have been very good with PJ when it comes to leaks. all except ST. and i was so pissed when my 10c copy came a few days early. i was pissed that i had heard the record already. i only listended to it once b4 it came out, but still. so for this, no leaks !! have heard what the band wants us to hear and thats it.
    Peace, Love.

  • The only album I listened to that was leaked was Riot Act.....was underwhelmed when I heard it leaked and still am now.

I like the anticipation though so I will just sit back and wait a month, no biggie. I am actually starting to listen to tracks from the last few albums that I might have skipped over previously or didn't show much attention to the first time around........still don't care for Riot Act though. :D

Drop the leak, Drop the leak!!!!!
  • I was a bit gutted to hear Supersonic live in London, having already heard Got Some, Fixer and The End I didn't want to hear any more before 20/09.

I'll be excitedly waiting for the date... only to find that like ITW the Polish shops don't have it in stock until seven months later!!
we're all going to the same place...

this is the best pj has done since yield on leaks.

IIRC, Yield at least partially leaked online during the Thanksgiving holiday of '97. Well before its Feb. '98 release. Of course, back in those days "leak" meant that some radio station in NYC played part of the album and some kid put a radio rip on his website.
