then she should have asked an intelligent question...hitler/nazi comments deserve stupid responses

Yeah... and I'm not Jewish, but I would think that most Jewish people (like Frank) have a pretty short temper when basically being compared to Nazi's or Hitler.

From what I've seen in these town hall meetings, there are no real discussions. Its more the politicians trying to answer questions and "hecklers" not allowing them to answer by yelling and booing at them when they try. And people who genuinely want to hear what this proposed health bill has and how will it effect them, can not- because of people not allowing them to talk.

If you look at the CNN article (posted before), Frank tried to answer question but got booed and talked above. Any person, for 2 hours or more, would get frustrated with the situation. He is a person, like everyone else and he lost his cool.

If the woman had asked her question in a way that would get a real answer, then she would not have gotten the response that she did. If she had asked - "is the proposed bill going to cut medicare funding?" - then she would have gotten a better answer. Instead throwing out the nazi line- is just stirring up the shit.

you expect a serious answer to this?

"Why are you supporting this Nazi policy?"

tell me...how would you answer that question?

i understand all that about the yelling and whatnot but she seemed to ask her question then remain silent, i didn't notice her yelling or shouting in the video. if he wants to go off because of that he should direct at someone acting like that. and his insults seemed more about what a stupid question he thought it was, not anger from being heckled or talked over.

but who knows, the video has edits in between his rants, who knows what happened in between, maybe they weren't even all directed at her

well i'd love to hear it...but at the point she brings hitler into it she loses all credibility

and i am not necessarily disagreeing with the intent of the question...i think the question of why he is supporting it is valid, but if you want one to take you seriously, be serious...

well ... if i knew what the nazi policy was towards health care - i would tell her the difference ... my entire point in this whole thread is just this: as soon as many of y'all here the word nazi - you're tuned out ... you are no longer listening - instead you dismiss her out of hand ... again, she could be a phd in health care policies around the world but no one would care simply because she use the word nazi ...

the crux of the issue to me is that in order for people to understand each other - we need to listen ... if you feel that she doesn't deserve to be listened to because of what she says or what she wears or anything - that is your prerogative but in a world where most of our differences are based on ignorance (see religion, human sexuality, etc.) - we could use more listening ...

do the people who rail against UHC/public option plan to renounce medicare when they come of age?

that's a "socialist" program. where is the outrage from these town hallers that old people get public health care?

the fact that this has caused so much outrage makes me embarrassed to be part of this country sometimes.

town haller mentality: "i'm fine with us going into iraq and spending $10B/month killing arabs and looking for those WMD's, but $30B/year to help out our own citizens receive basic medical care? FUCK NO!!! let's riot!!!"

rue- there were edits in that link you posted- and I don't know if she yelled back or did keep silent- I would really like to see the full video. Is that posted anywhere?

And I think his insult was in response to her question, but I think that he was frustrated with the whole meeting- and being human- he took it out on her. Did she deserve it- not the brunt of it- but I just think he met his breaking point.

the same reasoning could be made for Frank. He was not being listened to because of what he was saying. Instead, when he was talking- a lot of people were not listening and not trying to listen to what he came to say. Listening goes both ways. Its not just waiting for your turn to speak or to speak above another so you can get your point across or to prevent others from hearing what you have to say.

i can understand getting frustrated at all the yelling and booing but when you react like this to what seems like a girl who wasn't doing that but only asked a 'stupid question' it only allows people like glenn beck who push these ideas of nazi policies (saw a youtube video of him crying over a nazi health care poster and how it made him think of his daughter with cp and others like hannity, rush....to show a seemingly calm girl asking a question then be made fun of saying 'see, this is what the democrats think of those who don't agree with them, look at how they don't even listen to their constiuents!' which will strenghen what those people already believe. if he answered calmly and respectfully what can they say?

what if this was school. what if your kid asked a question that an adult could think was silly and stupid...what if their teacher made fun of them and said things like that to them? would parents care this is how they treat the kids in that class?

i'm just saying you have a better dialogue speaking calmly and being respectful.

i don't know if there's a full video, i looked for a while and looked for a transcript but everything i found had edits and far too many were from fox news

Absolutely, he could have responded better- but again- he is just a person and like anyone else. Because he is a politician, does that mean that he can not lose his cool?

He lost it and yes this does give the opposing side to use this to their advantage. Again- the clip was edited and we only see part of the video- I wonder if she was as calm throughout that exchange.

A lot of the democrats at these town hall meeting have been trying to speak calmly to the people- and what have people said- they are being weak.

people who compare Obama's healthcare reform model to anything like the nazi version need to get some help. Simple as that. Barney Frank is right on the money here. Bush was closer to hitler if you want to go that route but Obama is trying to increase the level of healthcare in this country.

    Thanks norm for that clip.

It looks like she was responding back to Frank, but her mic was not on. After he asked her the what planet question- it looks like he was listening to something she said and then made the dinning room table comment.

Also her statement/question was a lot longer than just the nazi comment. And maybe she was not calmly asking/answering Frank- Don't know- the camera was not on her but on Frank.

He could have handled it better, but eh..

the second any person compares a man who is responsible for killing millions of people to a man trying to expand health care coverage YOU DO LOSE CREDIBILITY. You can ask why do you support this socialistic policy, but Hitler has no place in this conversation. This lady did ask a question but she didn't give the man respect while asking it and he didn't give her respect in responding..and on a sidenote I'm not Jewish but if I was I'd be going off on these people left and right over these Nazi/Hitler comments...disgusting.

What about the message he is saying? What do you guys think about what he said?
Because even if it were Dick Cheney who said this to a lunatic woman instead of Barney Frank,.. i'd still agree with the message.

Just because you hate the messenger doesn't make the message invalid... right? Because if it does matter to you... well, with all due respect, it makes you look like partisan fools... which i'm not saying you are.... i'm just saying if that how you really feel... that's how you appear.

The Hitler/Obama comparisons are as retarded as the Bush/Hitler comparison, and anyone who uses them has no concept whatsoever of what Hitler did.

But Bush was Hitler! Remember the end of WW2 when Hitler was voted out of office and replaced by a black guy. It's just like that!

i agree with you here in your post. a few years ago i got eaten alive by the "patriots" for calling bush hitler, but i was referring to his naked aggression with invading iraq, which was built on all lies and trumped up accusations. it was one aspect that hitler was most famously known for, the same as bush will be known for it. i never used that comparison for domestic policy though. i learned to not make such hasty comparisons based on emotion since then.

to compare obama, who is trying to give health insurance to everyone and actually help people get the medical care then need and hitler who murdered indiscriminately over 6 million jews and millions of other germans, russians, brits, americans, etc that died in the war as a result of his action. there is absolutely no comparison. no comparison at all.

i think barney just got frustrated and sick of hearing this crap from the people that are so obviously brainwashed by palin, boener, grassley, and fox news that he kind of lost it. this lady deserved all that she got though. sometimes i would agree that talking to some folks around here is like arguing with the dining room table. but its all good because most of the time it makes for interesting conversation and sharing of ideas.

America could be such a beautiful place if It's Hannitys and Michelle Bachmans would just die. They are what spawns this shit.
