I'm sorry, but the lady completely lost all credibility when she pulled the Hitler card. Ignorance is NOT a legitimate point of view, and even if Frank had calmly and rationally refuted every single one of her points it still wouldn't have shut her up. You can't have an intelligent discussion with people like that. Because they aren't intelligent to begin with. As with a rabid dog, the only humane thing to do is put them down.
I'm not usually a big fan of Barney Frank, but the bitch got exactly what she deserved. And things like that need to happen more often.

that's my point - i don't think she does ... you can't be objective and open-minded if it takes one word for you to discredit someone ... she could be the foremost historian on health care policies around the world but no one would know simply because she used the word nazi or hitler ...
maybe there is more of this video but from what i saw - she could very well have a good point but no one's interested in listening ... and that pretty much sums up why often people cannot compromise ...
another example: you mention al gore to some people and all they think about is - "that guy said he invented the internet - he's a nutjob" ... end discussion ...
we can't create dialogue or understanding without listening to people ... so, while some of y'all think this frank guy is king here - he just seems to be another politician who isn't really listening to me ...
Unfortunately, there are just some people who aren't worth listening to. And it would be a waste of time, effort and resources to do otherwise. If someone doesn't have anything worthwhile to say, what's the point in listening?

then give a real answer! is it that hard? tell her why he supports it, why he thinks it's 'the right thing to do', why it's not a Nazi policy....maybe even ask her WHY she feels this way. you know, listen to your constituents, even the ones you disagree with instead of having some knee jerk reaction of 'i'm a jew, you mentioned nazis!!' and then saying talking to her is like having a discussion with a table, how would he know?
he should've done something to try and make her think the way he/most people think (that it's not a nazi policy), making fun of her will nothing but re-enforce this idea in her mind thinking 'he couldn't even tell me how or why i was wrong'

how about "because we as a society have a moral responsibility to protect our citizens." The first question in any of these discussions shouldn't be "why do you support health care reform?" It should be "why do you oppose health care reform?"

ultimately, it is for each individual to decide i suppose - it is just my opinion (especially as it relates to elected representatives) that people should be more open-minded and objective when listening ... and in this particular case - i think she should be heard and her question answered ...

I agree that his response was a bit out of line and harsh- He did however, answer her question> He said that no where in this proposed health care plan did it state that there will be a cut in medicare or in funding.
A lot of the inaccuracies in this bill have made people jump to so many conclusions that it makes a rational discussion moot. Death panels, and cutting off funding for x group and giving funding to illegal people, etc...
No matter how many times it has been said- people will always believe what they want, and Frank told her that him trying to make her understand his position is pointless. If you believe what you believe, then its mighty hard to change your perception.

It appears that he had been answering questions. The article also says that even when he was answering questions people were shouting and not listening at times, but it seems like he did a good job keeping in control of the meeting.

how can you argue with someone who compares gassing jews to someone who wants to provide everyone with affordable health care? there is no chance of reasoned debate.
this is the crux of my point - where does she compare gassing jews to affordable health care? ... in the clip i saw - she mentions this is a nazi-style of health care which favours some people over others ... it's that initial leap that people automatically make ...
in any case - if he does answer the question - then props to him but in the orig. clip - he doesn't

when i looked this up on youtube there was a ton from Fox, who knows how much it's pushed on radio.
my point is i'm not saying allow her an hour long interview but the point of a town hall meeting is for the constiuents to ask their elected representatives questions and receive answers. things like this just makes politics even more of a wrestling type nonsense. it's polarizing as well. now there's tons of conservatives with plenty of sound bites to play of him making fun of someone who he doesn't agree with.
i'm sure you've asked dumb questions throughout your life or done something stupid, who hasn't? but which do you learn more from; someone politely telling you where you went wrong or someone raising their voice and making fun of you? tell her how this plan isn't similar to a policy enacted by the Nazis, obviously saying it won't cut medicare wasn't enough.
i think it's bad form for an elected representative to act this way towards 1 of his constituents. answer them respectfully instead of giving your opponent a lot of sound bites, him responding respectfully wouldn't be pushed repeatedly as an example of government not listening or caring about what the public thinks. he also said something about he will only listen to those who have a vote (which i took more of him saying not special interests)...and then people ask 'how do these nuts even get these ideas!?' this is how!

i see your argument, but again, if you've seen clips from prior town hall meetings, you'll know what i'm talking about. elected officials (including obama) have been giving rational answers to these people for weeks now and its not getting through. it's like ron white says, "you can't fix stupid."
If the lady had gone into that even remotely deserving of respect, I might agree with you. But she wasn't looking for answers. She was looking to provoke a shouting match. And she got smacked down in exactly the manner that she deserved.

Of course she was going to keep quiet, she had just had her ass handed to her. She probably could've died of embarrassment right there. Loaded questions are like loaded weapons... they're both best handled by professionals.
