    Just announced...

The PS3 Slim is official and will hit shelves in early September for a price of $299.

Also, they are reducing the price on all current PS3s which will go into effect tomorrow.

Shit, I don't even want to tell you what I paid for mine!! :(

    Nice!

I may pick up an original.. slim is supposed to made of cheaper parts.

Yeah, but the Slim uses like 35% less energy and still functions in the same way the current system does.
I figure that 10% failure rate will get even lower as the unit will not get nearly as hot as the current one.

It won't play SA Audio CDs, but I don't know a single person that actually owns one anyways. hahaha

I don't know. If I was in the market I might consider waiting for the new one.

Good point.. Now I'm kind of glad I got rid of my old one, although, I don't know what I'd do with two blu-ray players and one tv.

i don't have a ps3 but do have a wii. i thought for what it came with it was a better value. it comes with a wireless remote, wireless router built in, a lot of built in memory for saved games (i have a few games and apps downloaded and some saved games and still have close to 200 blocks of memory left), it can play game cube discs, you can download a ton of old games from all the older nintendos, neo geo, saturn and a few other systems. the 1 i have can't play dvds, though, which didn't matter that much since i have a dvd player, i think now they make them even HD/Blu-Ray compatible.

however, you can't play some games on it that they have for play station and xbox, like gta, fable....but the wii version of resident evil 4 is really good, it combines the game cube and play station versions with a few unlockable mini games

You pretty much get all of that and more with the PS3 though.

    Wireless/Bluetooth controller.
    Wireless built in.
Harddrives ranging from 80GB to 120GB (also fully upgradable. YOu could put in a 500GB+ hdd if you wanted).
The PSN has a tons of good games for download.
    Bluetooth headsets for online communication.
And it has Blu-ray player built in.

I dunno, seems like for $50 more you can get a "real" ;) videogame system with lots of features and lots of really good games.

Again, I guess I'm just not a fan of the Wii. Too gimmicky IMO. The 360 and PS3 are much better options...

Put the BD player in your bedroom.

Whenever I upgrade anything, the other device moves to the bedroom. Hahahaha!

It's kinda like a retirement home for electronics. :D

And what's currently in the bedroom more or less had seen it's better days...

    how much are ps3's now?

it depends on what you want to do with it. playing the older games and zelda is enough for me. there's still some really good newer games for it.

what's the ps3's web browser like? the wii's is lacking but i rarely use it to go to any sites.

They just dropped to $299 starting tomorrow.. so for $50 more than Wii you get better graphics and a blu-ray player.

    that's not bad

again, it depends on what you want it for and what kind of games you want to play. i don't need a dvd player or a hd dvd player (the hd wii isn't even out yet) and could do without some of the games the wii doesn't carry. for what i paid and how little i use it, what i can play on the wii that i can't play on a ps3 or xbox the wii worked out better at the time i got it

  • compared to the better quality made $399 PS3.

and that doesn't even cover sony's cost to manufacture the systems. they took a loss on every system sold, which i'm sure they make up for in games and licensing fees, but yes, system quality is much better than the 360.

i jumped on a dell coupon code that got me the ps3 for $320 w/free shipping. thats what a decent blu-ray player alone costs. and being able to stream downloaded audio, video and pics wirelessly from any of my pcs is a great feature!

IGN.com released an article on the failure rates of the three videogame systems...

    http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/101/1014486p1.html

Report: Xbox 360 Failure Rate Reaches 54%
New survey says Microsoft's Red Ring of Death contines to rise.
    by Jim Reilly

August 17, 2009 - If your Xbox 360 hasn't broken down yet or suffered from the dreaded red ring of death, then consider yourself pretty lucky.

A new survey published in Game Informer's print edition indicates the Xbox 360 failure rate has climbed to a shocking 54.2%. The magazine surveyed nearly 5000 readers, asking them about their experience dealing with broken consoles.

    Here are their findings:

    Console failure rate

    Xbox 360 – 54.2%
    Playstation 3 – 10.6%
    Wii – 6.8%

Percentage of console owners who suffered a second hardware failure after the original repair.

    Xbox 360 – 41.2%
    Playstation 3 – 14.7%
    Wii – 11%

Percentage of people who rate their customer service experience "very helpful"

    Nintendo – 56.1%
    Sony – 51.1%
    Microsoft – 37.7%

Percentage of respondents whose friends have had console hardware failures.

    Xbox 360 – 69.9%
    Playstation 3 – 12.4%
    Wii – 6%

The magazine also makes a few notes about their results:

The reason the Wii has the lowest hardware failure rate could be because console is played the least of the three. 41.4% of Wii owners surveyed said they play the console less than one hour a day, meanwhile the majority of Xbox 360 (40.3%) and Playstation 3 (37%) owners say they play their console on an average of three to five hours day.

Also, only 3.8% of respondents said they'd never buy another Xbox system because of the failure rates.

    How have your experiences been?

My xbox 3-years pld saw the red ring of death but Microsoft gave me a new one for few money

Beavis: No, Pearl Jam came first.

    Right on.

You'll have to post your PSN name on here when you get your new system.
