rudeness, talking at shows

I kind of get the cameras at shows, people want to take a quick picture of the show they're at ... but here's what I don't get ...

I'm at the Kings of Leon show a few months back and to no one's surprise, their crowds are now made up of tons of college/just post-college cackling chicks.

So, they sit there stoically during most of the pre-Only By the Night songs (which is totally fine by me).

Then, either Sex on Fire or Use Somebody is played, and they ALL pull out their cameras and start snapping shots, looking at their phone, posing with their friends, deleting, posting it on Facebook etc. etc. etc.

My point, why not take the picture during a song you don’t like or don’t know, and enjoy the songs you do like without worrying about the hassle of the camera?

Overall, the use of camera phones at concerts has really got out of hand ... who the hell wants to watch the show through their camera, put the phone in your pocket and WATCH the show.

I solemnly swear that I will not be ruining any shows for my fellow 10 Clubbers. Maybe we can at least keep it cool in "our" area. Agreed?

If your gel and stiff collar last through a PJ show you're not rockin hard enough
  • My wife is a big Ani Difranco fan, so I took her to a show down in Hartford, CT last winter. It was in a smallish bar type place, standing room crowd in front, bar and tables in the back. During any remotely slow or quiet song, the crowd in the back was as loud as the music. It was this way the entire fucking show.

Why pay for a ticket? Why come?

not saying it's right, but I think they come to get drunk or just somewhere to go.

+1 I fucking hate 98% of the people I've ever met. Those movies where some terrible event occurs and there's only a small group of survivors are like porn to me.

Try going to a show in L.A.! Much of the crowd are there for the business and/or hipness factor, and there is always a high level of chatter. I derive a lot of joy when I see one of these people get told that they are not on the guest list....based on the looks on their faces, you'd think they'd just received some horrible news!

I used to organize charity concerts, and you'd be surprised at how many people who are usually on the guest list actually complained that they had to PAY to get in. I usually handed them a pamphlet dealing with child cancer victims..that usually shut them up!

I stopped going to gigs with "industry" people because they would have to deal with too many diversions (getting backstage, saying hello to people, etc.), as opposed to enjoying the music!

I swear to god, I was at Lollapalooza in 2008, and we were about halfway up in the crowd during RATM and there were people talking. During RAGE! And I won't even go into how people talk during the NIN Ghosts material. Performers should take a page out of Reznors book - someone threw a lighter at him during Hurt, and he kicked the keyboard over and stalked off and that was that. Just STFU and listen to the goddam show for crying out loud.

I didn't really hear much chatting at the O2 last night. But one thing which really pissed me off was the amount of people just milling around the seating area :o We had balcony seats and a pretty good view of the whole arena. Ok, so all night people were back and forth getting burgers and beers (although if you're paying nearly £50 a ticket to listen to the band play the room next door while you queue for a hotdog, then I think you have too much cash!) but when Life Wasted started it was like a mass exodus! Maybe it's just me, but I think it's rude. It's rude to the person next to you/behind you, that can't see while you go and get your 7th beer, and it's rude to the band.

i don't understand why people care about other people taking pictures unless they're using a flash or blocking your view with it. who cares how someone else chooses to enjoy their show as long as they're not causing a distraction to anyone else? i take a few pics at shows, not that many but really very little time is spent staring at the screen

  • Nothing worst than hearing people talking during gigs! Why go to gigs if you want to have a chat with your mates that you could easily do in a bar?

I remember seeing Mogawi a few years ago in Belfast and they were really pissed off with the crowd who were chatting away during their set! They said they weren't coming back but they did!

haha i saw Mogwai again a few months ago and during 1 part this small group started getting really loud during a quieter part and the scowl on Stuart's face was hillarious!

i saw the Flaming Lips the other day and people were mostly quiet for their set but the first opener, Stardeath and White Dwarfs (Wayne's nephew's band) the guy right behind me had 2 friends join him and he was going on about how great he thought they were but didn't shut up their entire set! if you think a new band is so great why would you talk through it? i can understand initially talking to tell your friends how good you think they are but come on!

luckily they left during Explosions in the Sky's set and were quiet when the Flaming Lips started
