Just listening to the Dallas 03' boot...unique show...opened with Alive.

Anyway, after playing Green Disease, Eddie says very sincerely..."This is our last stop in Texas for quite awhile."

Boy, he wasn't kidding. I never knew there was ever such a direct comment about avoiding Texas.

i remember when he said that. i thought to myself..."at least i live in Kansas City now!" a year an a half later, i was back in Texas. life's funny like that, i guess.

but we get ACL this year...an hopefully, they'll be back next year!!

aw the memories. That was one EPIC show. I had this big ass cast on my foot from surgery and still rocked my ass off. But yeah, regarding that statement about the "last stop in Texas[...]" It sucks it's taken this long and it does feel like a direct blow to Texas now. Oh well ACL will be fun. I just hope the damn crowd behaves. I want to watch shows. Moshpits and surfing at PJ = dumb.

Was this in reference to anything in particular? Was the venue not sold out?

If ACL was not going on they wouldn't be coming to Texas... Hell they have not been to Austin since the Vitalogy tour... They won't come for the fans, but they will come down to do the Austin City Limits TV SHOW and headline ACL for a bunch of tools who most likely have not listened to PJ in the past 10 years.

Sorry for the rant, just don't understand why they have purposely avoided Texas and much of the South.... :x

Yup. I bet they will not come back to play Dallas, Houston or San Antonio... Houston is ONLY the 4th LARGEST city in the US, SA in #7, and Dallas is #9!! It makes no sense!

i agree...it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. but ACL will be great & hopefully, they'll remember to add 3 of the 10 largest cities in the US in 2010!

I hope they play several shows in Texas during next year's tour. You guys/girls living down there deserve it. It is not fair that you have not gotten a show in so long.

I feel spoiled because I live near Boston and we get shows all the time. They should spread the love to the good fans in the south! :D

Enjoy ACL! I'll definitely keep my fingers crossed for the Texas fans next year!! From what I've seen on the message board there is a lot of fans down there. Texas is the most deserving for some shows next year!

ACL should be solid! I am hoping that now W. is out of the picture, PJ will return and play some proper shows in 2010. I sure would like to take a road trip around Texas to see them!

i think austin would have gotten a show sooner if there had been a decent place for them to play in the last 15 years! the guys may have issues with the politics in the rest of TX but they would like it here. :D

  • If its a George Bush issue, will Ed stop attending to the Cubbies Spring training because its in McCain's state of AZ? Doesn't seem fair...I live in Ohio which is pretty conservative but I'm not in the least. You can't always help where you end up living.

    My thoughts on this:

    1. I think you read too much into Eddie's comments. At the time the Dallas stop was the last one on the Riot Act tour and it went on for a few more months. I am sure at the time he had know idea if they were ever going to record another album much less what future touring stops were or were not going to be.
    2. You can't believe anything he says on stage. He says "see you next time" and stuff like that all the time and then never comes back.
    3. The show was not "sold out" technically but there were only a few lawn seats left. The argument about ticket sales in Texas doesn't hold water and never did. Selling a few tickets under capacity is no reason to avoid a city or there are plenty of cities they wouldn't go to again.
    4. They have returned to the south since then and so has Ed. Just not Texas yet for some reason. I think they will be back in 2010.

Considering your comment, isnt it weird that they even considered Utah? If there was ever a state where the major majority of the population runs contrary to almost every ideal that PJ rallys or rants, it has to be Utah. If I'm not mistaken, wasnt Utah like the second most RED state last November, other than (uhem) Wyoming.

I want to wear a "dont blame me, I'm not a Utahn Republican" shirt when they come to SLC.

From a politics and social perspective, you're absolutely right. Austin is COMPLETELY different from the rest of the state.

Unfortunately, the only sizable venue for PJ to play here is the Erwin Center, which is suspect at best. I could see Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio for sure.

i was totally kidding in this post. i don't think they have stayed away for 6 years because of politics. that would seem to be very un-PJ to me. i don't know why they haven't come back and maybe '10 is the year and if not i will keep using my frequent flyer miles to see them.

Saw them in Houston, then headed to Toronto. The Toronto crowd was intense, rockin. During the show Ed said this would get them to come back...(toronto) and they have, repeatedly.....course this was during dubya's highs with many followers at the show in Houston. Ed mentioned he wanted to start some shit but was afraid of his skin. ....it may have a tiny little bit to do with politics.

Me thinks so...at least a bit. I mean they are playing ACL and that is fantastic, so I am extremely satisfied with that

  • I was there! 9th Row, Mike's side. I loved it when he said that there was an envelope marked WMD that held tickets to come BLOW DALLAS UP, under one of the seats, and everyone started looking around haha! Classic Eddie.

Starting off with Alive was incredibly awesome and VERY unexpected!

Then why did they only show four out of the five members on the cover of the Unplugged DVD. They certainly weren't taking the high road on that one.
