Cheers to all and a very good discussion. wow. I appreciate it muchly. However, I can't believe it. Some friends showed up to support me tonight (long horrible life story) on this anniversary of terribleness. so i won't be drinking alone and babbling with semi-incoherence on pearl jam message boards this evening.

i'm still gonna drink. and f it. i might even puke (i didn't last night, christ that's weird) but i am going to play SOLAT tonight.

Tell them you love them. Never let the mundane, the unimportant, or worse, the misunderstood, be the final words of parting.

    Tell them.

  • i like the new, hippy jam band Pearl Jam, but nothing can compare to the pure rock fury that was PJ up until 96 or so. no band has ever rocked as hard. but i do agree they couldnt pull it off now. it would seem fake.

i still cant play the early boots without turning the volume up to full blast.
  • Where did all of the videos from Pink Pop come from? Is there a DVD I can get my sweaty little hands on?

Why would Stone and Jeff have gotten angry for Ed jumping into the crowd in Dublin 2000?
    Crowd safety?

    those were great days.....

When I watch those older video's I look at the crowd and see those kids who now would all be like me (mid thirties - grown up etc). The kids in those old crowds, are the ones running the world now.

Anyway - I liked it back then - and I like it just as much now.

Yeah, probably crowd safety. And the fact that the band had been trying since the mid-90s to get rid of the image of themselves as angsty musicians who jump into the crowd and rile everybody up. They were maturing, and Eddie probably just got lost in the moment and was transported back to the early 90s.

I agree with Stone and Jeff getting angry because diving into the crowd is ridiculously stupid and was never ever cool. I'll never understand why people want Eddie to go back to climbing the rafters and swinging about. It's stupid.

It's weird that the last stage dive was only weeks before the Roskilde tragedy :(

fondly remembering the past and missing it is what we do in all aspects of our lives- why should PJ be different?
They were great they are great they will continue to be great
thats the best part the will be
we can get sad and miss them when they say no more and then we will live more in the yesterdays
till then just enjoy it all nothing stays the same

That you for sharing your opinion but what you call "ridiculously stupid" I call exhilirating and potentially orgasmic! Given the choice of atmosphere, I will always take the Pinkpop/Lollapalooza/Roskilde type venues over seated arenas, hands down EVERY TIME! For me there is nothing more torturous than being confined to the space in front of a seat, next to a couple of stiffs who makes faces every time I accidently stomp on their feet or jab them in the ear with my elbow while trying to dance in a 12 inch box! KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD!!!!

i agree. its funny hearing so many PJ fans who sound like cranky old people now. i expect to start reading "PJ concerts are too loud" pretty soon.

  • I like 'new' PJ because they are much more interactive with the crowd. Mike just jumped around and waved his hair, now he does all his signature pointing and playing riffs for people in the crowd. I think the audience are much more involved nowadays
we're all going to the same place...

  • More toned down live shows are given. They have got older and I'd feel bad for them if they had to try to recreate that kind of show every night. It wouldn't feel natural. Having said that, I think the music is missing the groove that the earlier albums had. I like all the albums, but it would be nice if Backspacer had some songs that had the swaggering/groove sound from back in the 90s.
